David Pogue announces ‘Apple: The First 50 Years’ book, available for pre-order now

David Pogue’s been covering technology (and Apple) for longer than many 9to5Mac readers have been alive. And to celebrate Apple’s upcoming 50th anniversary next April, the “CBS Sunday Morning” correspondent is releasing a book where he promises stories, photos, and “fresh interviews” that will help tell the story of how 1976 Apple became today’s Apple.

Out March 17, 2026

Announced this weekend by the journalist himself, “Apple: The First 50 Years” promises to offer new insight into the story many of us know all too well: how “two scruffy twentysomethings” created what would become one of the most valuable and consequential companies in the world.

Throughout Apple’s history, Pogue has closely followed the company’s journey, which earned him the chance of being one of the very few journalists who got a review unit of the original iPhone.

He’s also a six-time Emmy winner for his stories on “CBS Sunday Morning,” and has written extensively about technology, publishing numerous books and guides.

According to the book’s official website, here’s what to expect:

Deeply researched and lavishly illustrated in color, Apple: The First 50 Years includes new interviews with 150 key people who made the journey, including Steve Wozniak, John Sculley, Jony Ive, and many current designers, engineers, and executives. The book busts long-held myths; goes backstage for both the titanic successes (450 million iPods, 700 million iPads, 2.2 billion iPhones) and the instructive failures (Lisa, Apple III, MobileMe); and assesses the forces that challenge Apple’s dominance as it enters its second half century.

Apple: The First 50 Years will be released on March 17, 2026, and is available for pre-order now. Pogue will also hit the road for a book tour, with conversations scheduled in cities yet to be announced.
