New Xcode beta now available with GPT-5 and Claude support

Apple has released a new beta of Xcode 26 for developers today with a pair of notable changes. There’s now support for ChatGPT 5, as well as built-in integration with Anthropic’s Claude.

When Apple announced Xcode 26 at WWDC, the company touted the ability for developers to tap into ChatGPT and other providers to write code, fix bugs, access documentation, and more. Here’s how Apple described it at the time:

Developers can connect large language models directly into their coding experience to write code, tests, and documentation; iterate on a design; fix errors; and more. Xcode has built-in support for ChatGPT, and developers can use API keys from other providers, or run local models on their Mac with Apple silicon, to choose the model that best suits their needs. Developers can start using ChatGPT in Xcode without needing to create an account, and subscribers can connect their accounts to access more requests.

With today’s release of Xcode 26 beta 7, Apple has upgraded the app’s integration with ChatGPT to use OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model. This will now be the default in Xcode, but developers can also opt to use GPT-4.1.

Apple explains:

ChatGPT in Xcode provides two model choices. “GPT-5” is optimized for quick, high-quality results, and should work well for most coding tasks. For difficult tasks, choose “GPT-5 (Reasoning)“, which spends more time thinking before responding, and can provide more accurate results for complex coding tasks.

Additionally, developers can also now sign into their Claude account to use Claude Sonnet 4 in Xcode. This is something we first spotted as being in the works earlier this month. “Claude in Xcode is now available in the Intelligence settings panel, allowing users to seamlessly add their existing paid Claude account to Xcode and start using Claude Sonnet 4,” Apple explains.

In addition to the built-in integration with ChatGPT and Claude, developers can also run local models on their Mac as well as use API keys from other AI providers.
