CarPlay in iOS 26.2 makes a key new feature even better (for some)

iOS 26.2 is officially here with exciting updates for Reminders, Apple Music, Podcasts, and more. There’s also a key enhancement for CarPlay widgets in iOS 26.2—but whether you benefit or not is entirely dependent on your vehicle.

iOS 26.2 expands CarPlay widget slots for some vehicles

Earlier this fall, Apple launched its biggest CarPlay update in years with iOS 26.

Among the release’s many new features, one welcome addition is iPhone-style widgets.

Depending on your vehicle’s infotainment screen size, you likely will see either one or two widgets on-screen at once.

But in iOS 26.2, Apple has expanded the number of widget stacks available—at least for some vehicles.

Tom Warren of The Verge posted on X that his vehicle previously showed two widgets, but in iOS 26.2 it now shows three.

It’s unclear how many vehicles have received expanded widget stacks in iOS 26.2.

Apple has no official documentation around which vehicles can show more widgets than others. All it says is the following:

Note: The number of widget stacks you see depends on your vehicle’s CarPlay screen.

Nonetheless, it’s great to see Apple making better use of precious screen real estate in the car.

Here’s hoping this expansion applies to a wide array of vehicles now that iOS 26.2 has launched.

Have you installed iOS 26.2, and if so, have your available CarPlay widget stacks changed? Let us know in the comments.
