New iPhone with 200MP camera gets release timing update

Cameras are among the iPhone’s most important features, and a new report indicates there’s a huge 200MP camera leap coming in 2028.

Morgan Stanley says iPhone will gain 200MP camera in 2028

Last spring, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station posted that Apple was working on a 200MP version of the iPhone’s camera.

Currently, the iPhone has 48MP cameras for all its rear lenses, including Ultra Wide and Telephoto. But the main camera was the first to switch from 12MP to 48MP.

There was no timeline given by Digital Chat Station for the forthcoming 200MP upgrade.

However, a new report today indicates it will happen with Apple’s 2028 iPhone line.

A Morgan Stanley investor note (via AppleInsider) says that the first 200MP iPhone camera will debut that year, produced by Samsung.

Though Apple will certainly have other camera improvements in this year’s iPhone 18 line and its 2027 iPhones, it seems likely that the megapixel count will remain the same until 2028.

Samsung and Apple may be rivals, but they’re also partners when it comes to smartphone supplies. For example, Samsung is expected to be the supplier of the iPhone Fold’s new crease-free display.
