Unsurprisingly, Elon Musk reacts poorly to Apple’s new Google Gemini deal

Following today’s announcement that Google’s Gemini will drive new Siri features, Elon Musk took to X to call it “an unreasonable concentration of power” for Google. Find the full post below.

Musk sees ‘unreasonable concentration of power for Google’

Earlier today, the News from Google account on X confirmed a multi-year partnership with Apple to power Siri and the Apple Foundation Model with Google’s infrastructure.

A couple of hours after that, Elon Musk replied to the post, calling it “an unreasonable concentration of power” for Google:

Musk’s post comes as his xAI company is currently suing Apple and OpenAI over their partnership to bring ChatGPT in as an add-on to Siri and to Apple Intelligence features.

According to Musk, their partnership has been preempting competitors such as Grok from having a fair shot at the App Store. Despite being widely discredited, the allegation is scheduled to proceed after surviving dismissal attempts from both Apple and OpenAI.

Back to Musk’s criticism of Apple and Google’s partnership, some have interpreted it as a hint that xAI could eventually launch a phone, an idea Musk has floated in the past.

Others saw it as a warning shot ahead of a possible lawsuit seeking to derail the deal, much like Musk’s case against Apple and OpenAI.

That time Musk said, "I'm not adding CarPlay to Tesla and there's nothing you can do about it." Ok... I paraphrased but yeah, I guess Apple was... think(ing) different.

Musk’s grievance comes as xAI faces growing international backlash and regulatory pressure after Grok was used to generate non-consensual, sexualized images, including content involving minors.

This prompted countries like Indonesia and Malaysia to block the chatbot, sparked investigations and potential legal action, and reignited calls to remove the xAI app from the App Store.

Be it as it may, whether Musk’s newest gripe will escalate further remains to be seen.
