Apple first launched the Studio Display in March 2022 and it hasn’t received an update since then. That could be about to change, however, as rumors suggest the Studio Display 2 is imminent with at least four key changes…
Studio Display 2 is imminent
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the new Studio Display “looks quite similar to the current one.” This suggests we shouldn’t expect any major design changes with the looming refresh.
Instead, it seems like Apple’s focus will be on the underlying display quality of the Studio Display.
Key Studio Display 2 changes:
- A higher refresh rate: There are conflicting rumors about whether the Studio Display 2 will feature a 120Hz or 90Hz refresh rate. Either way, however, the consensus is that the refresh rate will be higher than the current model’s 60Hz limit.
- A19 chip: The current Studio Display has an A13 Bionic chip. The Studio Display 2 is rumored to have an A19 chip to power features like the camera, speakers, and more.
- Mini-LED display: The current Studio Display uses LED backlighting. According to reliable analyst Ross Young, however, the Studio Display 2 will use mini-LED backlighting similar to the MacBook Pro.
- HDR support: Alongside the mini-LED panel, the new Studio Display will reportedly have HDR support.
There are still a lot questions about the Studio Display 2, including price and connectivity. Still, reporting from sources including Bloomberg is that the new model will be released in the first half of the year — so any day now, basically.
