iPhone 18 Pro could bring three controversial design changes

We’re just two months away from Apple announcing the iPhone 18 Pro. Rumors suggest Apple could have three design changes in store that could be unpopular among some iPhone 18 Pro buyers …

iPhone 18 Pro design: Thickness

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be thicker than their predecessors, but the exact specifics here are somewhat unclear.

According to Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup could be around 2mm thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro. For context, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are both 8.75mm thick. If this rumor pans out, the iPhone 18 Pro phones would be roughly 10.75mm thick.

Leaker Ice Universe, meanwhile, reported this week that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will measure around 9mm thick.

However, in an interesting wrinkle, Macworld reports that the thickness of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max body will be unchanged at 8.75mm. Instead, that report says the phone’s camera bump will get thicker this year.

Weight

The iPhone 18 Pro models are also rumored to be heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. According to a rumor from leaker Instant Digital, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh approximately 240 grams. This has also been reported by leaker Ice Universe on Weibo.

For context, the iPhone 17 Pro Max weighs 233 grams, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams.

There haven’t been any specific rumors about how much the smaller iPhone 18 Pro will weigh, but it is also expected to be heavier. The iPhone 17 Pro weighs 206 grams.

No black iPhone 18 Pro color?

Finally, it’s possible the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will continue an unpopular design trend started by the iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone 17 Pro is available in cosmic orange, deep blue, and silver. To the dismay of many shoppers, the device is not available in any shade of black or dark gray.

Initially, it was rumored that the iPhone 18 Pro phones would be available in four colors: dark cherry, light blue, silver, and black.

A new rumor this week, however, said the iPhone 18 Pro will only be available in dark cherry, light blue, and silver. If this rumor pans out, it would be the second year in a row without a black iPhone Pro model.
