Apple unveils new film from ‘Best Picture’ Oscar winner

Apple made history in 2022 when its film CODA won the Oscar for Best Picture. And now, the director’s follow-up title—Being Heumann—has just been dated for Apple TV.

Being Heumann hits Apple TV this November from CODA director

Apple’s film division has a history of high highs and low lows. In the former category, the success of CODA is a clear standout.

CODA won Best Picture in 2022, along with two other Oscars, at the Academy Awards. And when it did, Apple TV became the first streaming service to ever win the Oscars’ top film prize.

Now CODA’s director, Sian Heder, is nearly ready to debut her follow-up title, and it’s again been entrusted with Apple.

Being Heumann is coming to select theaters on November 6, and hits Apple TV on November 13.

Here’s the plot summary:

Based on a true story. Scrappy, defiant, and done being treated like a burden, Judy Heumann turns her outrage into a revolution. In 1977, she and more than 100 disability rights protestors send a very loud message: The system is broken-not us.

Today Entertainment Weekly published a first look at the new film, including a variety of quotes from Heder on the project.

Being Heumann joins the recently announced Tenzing as another film expected to contend for Oscars at next year’s Academy Awards.

These will complement Apple’s several other upcoming movies geared more toward the masses, including this week’s pickleball comedy The Dink.
