AirTag 2 launched this year with upgrades to range, a louder speaker, and more. But one key feature didn’t improve: battery life. Fortunately, there’s an add-on accessory that extends AirTag 2’s roughly one year of battery life to 10 years or more.
AirTag accessory extends battery life to 10 years or longer
Among Apple devices that rely on battery power, there’s one popular product that won’t let you recharge it: AirTag.
This was always true with the original AirTag, and AirTag 2 similarly relies on installing a new battery every year or so.
AirTag 2’s battery life is unchanged from the prior model. But there’s a third-party accessory I love that takes the battery life from 1 year all the way up to 10 years or longer.
Elevation Lab’s AirTag extended battery case essentially turns your AirTag into an ‘AirTag Max.’
You install your AirTag 1 or 2 into the battery case (it’s compatible with both models), then add a pair of AA batteries, and your AirTag’s battery capacity will increase by 14x.
It’s a clever solution that works well. The only downside is the extra bulk the battery case adds to AirTag. But I’ve found there are plenty of times when an AirTag doesn’t need to be so small, and the case size is a non-issue.

Elevation Lab also makes a more compact version that promises 5 years of battery life rather than 10. So if the 10-year model is too bulky for your needs, there’s another solution available here.
One year of AirTag battery life isn’t bad. But if you have a bunch of AirTags tracking a variety of items, it can be annoying getting low battery alerts somewhat regularly. If you don’t mind the extra bulk of the case, I highly recommend Elevation Lab’s solution.
