Apple today updated its vintage and obsolete product lists, with the iPhone X and 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro now classified as obsolete. Here’s what that means.
iPhone X and 15” 2018 MacBook Pro now obsolete
In an update to its “Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty” support article, Apple today moved the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro and iPhone X from its vintage products lists to its obsolete products lists.
As Apple explains, once a device is added to its obsolete products list, the company discontinues all hardware service for it, and service providers can no longer order parts for it.
Products may become obsolete more than seven years after Apple stops distributing them for sale, though the actual timing of the classification is ultimately up to Apple.
Apple’s vintage list, on the other hand, includes products that the company will service only while parts remain available. Apple considers a product vintage when it stopped distributing it for sale more than five but less than seven years ago.
Apple dropped major OS support for the iPhone X with iOS 17, leaving iOS 16 as its final major release. The device currently tops out at iOS 16.7.16. The 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro, meanwhile, is limited to macOS Sequoia, with macOS 15.7.7 currently available for the model.
