ChatGPT subscribers can now open and edit Google Drive files from inside the chat

ChatGPT is rolling out a deeper integration with Google Drive, allowing users to add Google Drive files to their ChatGPT Library and edit documents without leaving the chat. Here are the details.

ChatGPT expands Google Drive plugin integration

As announced by ChatGPT Consumer Product Lead Adam Fry on X, users who subscribe to paid ChatGPT plans can now add Google Drive files to their ChatGPT Library.

Fry says this “makes it easy to ask ChatGPT questions about those files,” adding that users can tap the + button on the left-hand side of the prompt field, and then select “Add from Library.”

Thanks to the new integration, paid ChatGPT users can now open and even edit Google Drive files directly in the chat, instead of having to switch to another window. ChatGPT still provides an option to open each file in its corresponding Google app, such as Google Docs or Google Sheets.

Replying to a user on X, Fry explained that ChatGPT edits the actual file in Google Drive, rather than copying a static file based on the existing document.

In addition to the Google Drive integration, Fry also noted three other features that landed on ChatGPT this week, chief among them a new quiz tool that allows users to ask ChatGPT to quiz them on a specific topic, and ChatGPT will generate an interactive quiz complete with multiple choices, navigation between questions, and a hint button.

Fry also highlighted ChatGPT’s recently announced integration with Yelp, which allows users to book tables and join restaurant waitlists, and a new feature for paid users that gives “high-quality suggestions” from the chatbot’s home page.
