North Carolina set to launch digital IDs, with Apple Wallet support on the way

A new digital driver’s license is launching soon, with support in Apple Wallet to follow shortly after.

North Carolina has announced that mobile IDs are coming later this year, letting residents obtain a digital driver’s license that can be stored on their iPhone.

Initially, the ID will be available only in the official NC Wallet app. But the state says support for Apple Wallet is coming “in early 2027.”

If you’re a North Carolina resident, you can apply to participate in a 60-minute feedback session.
