Spotify’s new Playlist Notes let users add context to songs, podcasts, and audiobook picks

Spotify today announced an expansion of its recently released User Notes feature. While User Notes are limited to songs, the new Playlist Notes also let users add context to podcast episodes and audiobooks in their playlists. Here are the details.

’Capture a memory, share a recommendation, or explain why a pick made the cut’

Last month, Spotify announced User Notes, a social feature that lets users append short, 240-character-long notes to individual tracks on their playlists.

Today, as first noted by TechCrunch, the company announced Playlist Notes, which expands on the possibilities of User Notes.

With Playlist Notes, users can now add notes not just to the tracks, but also to the podcast episodes and audiobooks they’ve added to their playlists.

Spotify says its editors will also use Playlist Notes to “share why a track matters, what makes it culturally relevant, or why it belongs in that particular playlist.”

Users will also be able to check out Editor Profiles to “get to know the people behind the playlists,” where they’ll also find the editor’s top tracks, top albums, and the playlists they contribute to.

Here’s Spotify’s official guide to add a Playlist Note:

Playlist Notes on user-curated playlists are currently rolling out on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets globally. Availability may differ from editors’ Playlist Notes.

  1. Open a playlist you own or collaborate on.
  2. Tap the three dots (…) next to a track, podcast episode, or audiobook you’ve added to the playlist.
  3. Select Add note.
  4. Enter your note, then tap Save.

Spotify says Editor Profiles and their Playlist Notes will start rolling out today to all users aged 16 and up in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
