Apple is once again stepping up to contribute to support relief efforts following a deadly natural disaster. Here are the details.
Apple pledges support following deadly floods
Tonight, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company will donate to support relief and rebuilding efforts following flash floods and mudslides that have killed hundreds of people in Nepal and Tibet.
The disaster began on Wednesday after the lower portion of a glacier in the Himalayas collapsed. The debris briefly blocked the river before giving way, sending floodwaters and mud downstream, killing hundreds of people, displacing others, and damaging villages, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Cook’s pledge comes just days after Apple said it would donate to support Indonesia earthquake relief efforts, and follows similar donations the company has made in recent months in response to emergencies in Venezuela, Southern Europe, and Japan, among others.
In addition to stepping up during natural disasters and other emergencies, Apple also has an internal donation program called Employee Giving, which has raised more than $880 million to date through a donation-matching policy.
