Indie App Spotlight: ‘HEVCut’ helps you trim your photo library without deleting anything

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app featured, get in contact.

Everyone has issues with iPhone storage. Even if you use iCloud, Apple has a large gap between tiers, with it immediately jumping from 200GB at $3 to 2TB at $10. If you just want a little bit more than 200GB, it can be hard to justify that upgrade. HEVCut aims to fix this by optimizing your photo library, without needing to delete anything.

Highlights

To be clear, HEVCut also offers the normal features you’d expect in a photo cleanup app: it helps you find duplicate shots, as well as the ability to easily delete photos in a nice swipe left/right interface.

That’s not the key highlight, though. As I said earlier, it can go through your photos library and compress media. It’s highly effective, so you save 50-80% on each file, while not losing much in image quality.

It runs all on device, so you’re not giving up your privacy to compress your images. This can easily help you save hundreds of gigs of local or iCloud storage.

It also supports a nifty video editor for trimming down videos to shorter lengths to share with friends, in case you tend to record entire events when you only need a few key moments.

Download the app

HEVCut is available for free on the App Store in a limited capacity, but to unlock the full experience, including the best resolution settings, you’ll need HEVCut Pro for $24.99/year or $39.99 for the lifetime upgrade. There’s a $0.49 1 week trial if you’d like to give it a shot before committing.
