Apple’s new HomeView was reportedly mostly finished for years, but kept getting delayed. Here’s why HomeView couldn’t launch until now, per quotes from key Apple execs.
Apple touts Siri AI with personal context and conversational abilities as essential to HomeView

In November 2024, Mark Gurman published an in-depth report on the product we now know as HomeView. At the time, he said Apple was targeting a March 2025 launch. But that date kept slipping, and now HomeView will finally arrive in homes on November 13, 2026.
Why the long wait? Gurman has repeatedly pointed to Siri AI as the chief cause of delays. And Apple execs have now largely confirmed that in quotes given to The Verge.
Jennifer Pattison Tuohy asked Kaiann Drance, Apple’s VP of product marketing for home, why now was the right time for HomeView and Apple’s renewed smart home push.
She said Siri AI and the personal context it brings, which she called Apple’s “privacy story,” came together with a device designed specifically for the home. “With the magic of Siri AI, it comes together in a way that we haven’t been able to deliver before,” she said.
HomeView is being marketed as a shared device that taps into users’ personal context in a way that wasn’t possible pre-Siri AI. So it’s easy to see how Apple’s main pitch would need to change without the more personalized Siri.
A similar explanation was given by Apple’s Lilian Rincon, VP of product marketing for AI. She told The Verge that Siri AI is core to HomeView because it’s “much more capable” and also highlighted its conversational abilities, which make it easy to use for any family member.
“It’s great because you can just ask it to change the temperature on your thermostat in a very natural way. As the Siri AI capabilities continue to evolve, the home experience is fitting to be able to interact with in this natural way.” On why now, Rincon says the natural-language shift is the point where AI goes mainstream. “Because now it can be … my mother-in-law or the Gen Z who’s in college, both of them can use this in the way that they naturally speak and get what they want.”

This is a no-brainer for me. I like a HomePod in the kitchen. Makes it easy to yell out Siri commands while my hands are occupied. For $50 LESS than the price of a regular HomePod, I also get a screen and increased functionality. Even if it did nothing other than have a photo screen and show timers visually, it would be worth it.
This emphasis and explanation also makes HomeView’s absence in the EU more understandable.
If Siri AI was simply a nice-to-have addition to an otherwise feature-rich product, perhaps it could launch in the EU still. But if the whole value proposition revolves around the new assistant and its personalized features, waiting until Siri AI is available for iOS in the EU makes more sense.
