Apple TV is adding two new features with iOS 27.2

iOS 27.2 is coming next week and brings two new features for Apple TV subscribers. Here’s what’s new.

#1: Profiles come to iPhone and iPad, and with new characters

Apple TV is currently the only major streaming service that doesn’t offer user profiles on iPhone and iPad. But that’s about to change with iOS and iPadOS 27.2.

Profiles already exist in tvOS for big-screen viewing of Apple TV content, but now they’re coming to Apple’s other platforms too.

When you create user profiles on one platform, they automatically sync to others, letting you keep playback history, queues, and recommendations all personalized for each viewer. And if you set up a profile for your child, they’ll only see age-appropriate Apple TV content.

Alongside the expansion of profiles to more platforms, Apple has added a variety of new profile image options in iOS 27.2. Characters from Apple TV kids’ series like The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater are all now available.

#2: Sign language support

Apple TV is taking accessibility a step beyond subtitle options by adding official support for sign language on select movies and shows.

With iOS 27.2, users can optionally enable American Sign Language (ASL) or British Sign Language (BSL).

You’ll find the option to enable sign language inside the Settings app under Apps ⇾ TV ⇾ Sign Language. It’s unknown how many Apple TV titles will support sign language initially, but it’s great to see the feature added.
