Apple TV’s new top three shows hit on what the streamer does best

Apple TV’s most popular shows are never a secret—they’re featured prominently in the TV app’s ‘Top 10.’ And this week, the top three shows spotlight the three genres Apple does best.

Shrinking, Imperfect Women, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters represent Apple TV’s three best genres

Apple TV’s three most popular series right now span the streamer’s three best genres:

  • Comedy
  • Thriller
  • Sci-fi

The top three shows in the US charts are Shrinking, Imperfect Women, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Each represents one of Apple’s most successful genres.

Shrinking is from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence, and in its third season the beloved comedy is as strong as ever.

Imperfect Women is a new psychological thriller starring Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Kate Mara. It joins the ever-growing array of thriller series in Apple’s catalog.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a sci-fi epic featuring Godzilla, Kong, and other Titans.

Apple TV content spans a wide array of genres, but there’s no doubt the streamer’s biggest success has come from shows like these three.

Ted Lasso was the streamer’s first true breakout hit. And Lawrence’s fellow comedies—Shrinking and Bad Monkey—have similarly been among Apple’s best series.

Thrillers have been a special focus for Apple over the past couple years, with more thriller series premiering than any other single genre. This year alone, Apple TV has so far had 10 different series air—and 5 of those 10 are classified as thrillers.

And sci-fi has long been a strength for the streamer. Recent examples include Severance and Pluribus. But there’s also a deep sci-fi bench with Foundation, Dark Matter, Silo, For All Mankind, and more.

So if you like Apple TV, it’s probably due to one or more of these genres. And perhaps Apple’s scheduling will continue to reflect that, with new shows in this genre trio premiering near-constantly and giving viewers a regular helping of Apple TV at its best.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
