watchOS 27 to reportedly offer two main Apple Watch upgrades

Apple will unveil iOS 27 and its companion software updates on June 8 at WWDC, and a recent Q&A with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed the two main upgrades coming with watchOS 27.

Apple focused on AI features and quality improvements in watchOS 27

Last week Mark Gurman hosted a Q&A where he answered a variety of Apple-related questions. The full transcript is available here.

One question had to do with Apple’s hardware and software plans for the Apple Watch this year.

Gurman didn’t have much to offer related to hardware, other than saying he’s “not expecting any major redesigns this year.”

However, when it comes to watchOS 27 there were two tentpole changes highlighted.

Here’s what Gurman said:

I think this year it’s just about implementing more AI features into the watch from a software standpoint…In terms of WWDC, what’s in addition to AI features? Not much, really. I mean, it’s about getting the software in good shape and telling their AI story.

So watchOS 27’s main improvements will come in the form of:

  1. AI features
  2. Bug fixes and performance improvements

Based on this response, it sounds like watchOS 27 will very much mirror iOS 27 with its upgrades.

Gurman has been reporting for a while that Apple is prioritizing AI advancements and performance for its next big iPhone software version too. That’s expected to focus a lot on the new and improved Siri, as detailed last week.
