New iPads will launch later this year, here’s what rumors say is coming

We’re heading into a summer of software unveilings, but Apple has 15+ new hardware products rumored to launch later in the year—including multiple iPads. Here’s the latest on new iPads to expect.

#1: iPad mini with OLED display

The iPad mini might not be the most popular model, but it does have its enthusiastic fans. And later this year, a new iPad mini is rumored to launch that brings at least one big change.

Reporting from several sources, including Bloomberg, has said the next iPad mini will gain an OLED display.

The current iPad mini’s LCD has been one of the only main complaints about the product. That’s in part due to a “jelly scrolling” issue that was somewhat resolved in the latest model, but isn’t completely gone.

Upgrading to OLED should remove any lingering doubts about the display, especially if it’s anything like the iPad Pro’s tandem OLED.

We’re also expecting an upgraded chip in the new iPad mini. The current mini has an A17 Pro chip, so it already supports Apple Intelligence. The new model might get an A19 chip, and improved water resistance is also rumored.

#2: Base model iPad with new chip for AI features

Alongside the new iPad mini, Apple reportedly has one more iPad coming this year: an upgraded base model.

Rumors had pointed to a March launch for the latest base iPad, but instead Apple only debuted a new iPad Air with no other iPad update.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is still expecting the next base iPad to launch this year. But the timing remains unclear.

When it launches, the new iPad is rumored to gain an A18 chip, which most notably will bring Apple Intelligence to the base iPad for the first time.

Current iPad users may or may not find a lot of use in Apple Intelligence, but with iOS and iPadOS 27 set to be centered around exciting AI upgrades, that’s likely to change.

Beyond the new chip, we’re expecting most other features about the new iPad to stay the same.

And if you’re hoping for a new iPad Pro, the current M5 model isn’t expected to receive an update until 2027.

Are you waiting for a new iPad before upgrading? What new features are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
