Apple TV’s two most acclaimed shows return soon, here’s what’s coming

Apple TV has built a strong reputation for high-quality TV shows, but only two series have won the top prizes at the Emmy Awards, the pinnacle for critical recognition. And both shows—Ted Lasso and The Studio—are back soon with new seasons.

#1: Ted Lasso season 4

Three years after the last season ended, multiple Emmy Award winner Ted Lasso is finally coming back.

Ted Lasso season 4 premieres Wednesday, August 5 with one episode, followed by weekly releases through October 7.

Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift all return for the new season, joined by a variety of newcomers to the cast. They’ll seek to add to Lasso’s two Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy wins.

Here’s Apple’s official season summary:

In season four, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.

Behind the scenes, season 4 added a key creative force: Jack Burditt, who led the writers room alongside Sudeikis. Burditt has a strong track record working on beloved comedies like 30 Rock, Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, and more.

#2: The Studio season 2

Though it wasn’t as big a mainstream hit as Ted Lasso, The Studio managed to match—and in some ways even best—Lasso as an awards darling.

The Studio season 2 premieres later this year on Apple TV, per a recent Lionsgate announcement.

Apple hasn’t announced a release date, but Lionsgate produces the show and confirmed it’s returning this year, likely in the fall.

Recently, The Studio completed a full sweep of major awards for its first season, a feat that’s never been accomplished by a comedy. Among its most notable wins: Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys and Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.

Season 2 is currently in production and features a fresh lineup of big Hollywood cameos. So far, Madonna, Julia Garner, Donald Glover, and Michael Keaton have been spotted filming.
