Here’s how MacBook Neo sales compare to M5 MacBook Air and Pro

A new IDC report (via TechCrunch) offers a glimpse into MacBook Neo sales in its first few weeks compared to the also-new M5 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.

MacBook Neo was Apple’s bestselling new model during launch weeks, with strong momentum after

MacBook Air has long been the bestselling Apple laptop, but its reign may be over soon.

Per a new IDC report tracking sales in the first quarter of 2026, we have our first solid numbers comparing MacBook Neo to the M5 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro—all of which went on sale March 11.

TechCrunch reports:

Apple shipped 1.1 million MacBook Neo units in the quarter ended March, according to data from market intelligence provider IDC, shared with TechCrunch, ahead of the recent MacBook Air (M5) and MacBook Pro (M5) launches. Those MacBooks shipped over 900,000 and 550,000 units, respectively, in their debut quarters.

So in the first few weeks on sale, Apple’s laptop lineup reportedly sold like this:

  • MacBook Neo: 1.1 million units
  • MacBook Air with M5: 900,000 units
  • MacBook Pro with M5 Pro/Max: 550,000 units

It’s a close race between MacBook Neo and MacBook Air. When taking into account older MacBook Air models, however, the Air was almost certainly still Apple’s bestselling laptop during the three-week launch period—not to mention the full quarter.

Where things could get more interesting is the current quarter, covering April through June.

The report continues: “launch-quarter figures may tell only part of the story, with Singh forecasting a ‘very big spike’ in Neo shipments in the current quarter as Apple works through supply constraints and expands availability.”

If MacBook Neo does get a big spike this quarter, that almost certainly will make it Apple’s overall bestselling Mac.
