In iOS 27, Apple says it took extra care to make its software “more responsive, reliable, and delightful.” There are a variety of fixes that should make your iPhone faster, including one update for network transitions.
iOS 27 makes transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular more seamless than ever
Under the banner of ‘platform improvements,’ Apple says it has done a lot of work to make your iPhone run faster in iOS 27.
Speed improvements are evident in a variety of areas. But one that Apple specifically called out was network transitions.
Whenever your iPhone is moving between a Wi-Fi network and cellular connection, there has historically been an annoying lag.
You walk out your front door, away from Wi-Fi, but your iPhone still thinks it’s on that Wi-Fi connection and thus doesn’t switch over to cellular fast enough.
The result is that you’re temporarily left with no data connection.
In those situations, one common remedy is to open Control Center and temporarily disable Wi-Fi so that your iPhone will switch to cellular right away.
But in iOS 27, you shouldn’t have to do that anymore.
Per Apple: “During network transitions, moving between cellular and Wi-Fi networks is more seamless than ever.”
Essentially, iOS 27 makes your iPhone smarter about when to transition from Wi-Fi to cellular, and vice versa. And after a couple months running the beta, it seems like Apple has truly delivered.
I can’t recall needing to toggle off Wi-Fi at all in iOS 27 so far. My iPhone has maintained a solid connection even during network transitions. Here’s hoping that will be true for all users once iOS 27 ships.
