Apple releases Safari security updates for Yosemite, Mavericks and Mountain Lion

Apple today released a trio of OS X security updates for the Safari web browser, labeled 8.0.4, 7.1.4, and 6.2.4 for OS X Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion, respectively. The updates revolve around fixes for WebKit:

Impact:  Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an
unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
Description:  Multiple memory corruption issues existed in WebKit.
These issues were addressed through improved memory handling.

Impact:  Inconsistent user interface may prevent users from
discerning a phishing attack
Description:  A user interface inconsistency existed in Safari that
allowed an attacker to misrepresent the URL. This issue was addressed
through improved user interface consistency checks.

The updates are available from the Mac App Store’s Software Update tab. An update is not yet available for OS X 10.10.3, which includes Safari version 8.0.5.

What Apple needs to be doing is focusing on iOS 8.2. Since upgrading last week the some music in my music app are incorrectly tagged and some albums are oddly missing album covers when I know for a fact there should be an album cover.

I think security threats far outweigh music metadata problems in regard to what Apple’s priority should be.

Agreed, critical bug fixes and security updates are much more important than fixing missing cover art in the Music app!

You realize those are completely separate teams at Apple, right?

Hmm this sounds like a fix for ransomeware alerts. If so, that’s awesome because It was tough for me to figure out how to get out of it and I wasn’t about to call their phone number.

That icon looks so retro now.

  4. After this update, Outlook for mac 2016 preview (15.8.1) stops working.. anybody else has this problem?
