Fortnite for iOS updated w/ exclusive one-year anniversary content, return of Playground Mode

Fortnite for iOS, which has been a monster success since its release earlier this year, has been updated today with a handful of notable features and changes. The update brings the app to version 5.1…

First and foremost, Epic Games is celebrating the one-year anniversary of Fortnite’s launch with surprises throughout the game. These surprises include exclusive content, XP, and more:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Celebrate Fortnite’s first birthday with surprises found throughout the game. Come play!

  • Deal 1,000 damage to opponents to unlock the Fortnite Birthday! Emoticon
  • Dance at different birthday cakes to unlock the Happy Birthday! Spray
  • Play 14 matches to unlock 5,000 XP.
  • Complete all 3 challenges to earn the Birthday Cake Back Bling

Furthermore, the update includes the highly antiquated return of Playground Mode, which allows users to join friends for so-called “free-play.” Playground Mode will be available starting tomorrow, July 25th and will remain for a “limited time.”

PLAYGROUND MODE IS BACK – Playground mode will return on July 25th and remain for a limited time. Come create, train and play with your friends.

Last but not least, the update also includes support for background downloading of app updates and more:

MOBILE IMPROVEMENTS – We’ve added the ability to background the app while downloading updates, new quick building buttons, and new customizable control options.

Fortnite for iOS is available on the App Store as a free download with in-app purchases.
