Tim Cook: iPhone X was the most popular iPhone during Q3 as customer satisfaction hits 98%

During Apple’s earnings call this afternoon, Tim Cook provided some color on the sales of each iPhone model during the third quarter of 2018. Cook touted that the iPhone X was the most popular iPhone during the quarter “once again,” with 98 percent customer satisfaction…

During his opening remarks on the call, Cook explained that iPhone revenue was up 20 percent year-over-year, with the active iPhone install base growing by double digits thanks to “switchers, first-time smartphone buyers, and existing customers.”

Despite some earlier reports that suggested the iPhone 8 Plus was the best-selling iPhone during the June quarter, Cook reaffirmed that the iPhone X was the model chosen most often by consumers:

iPhone had a very strong quarter. Revenue was up 20 percent year-over-year, and the active install base grew by double digits, driven by switchers, first-time smartphone buyers, and our existing customers. iPhone X was the most popular iPhone in the quarter once again, with a customer satisfaction score of 98 percent according to 451 Research.

Meanwhile, during his separate prepared remarks, Apple CFO Luca Maestri touted that customer satisfaction across all iPhone models was 96 percent. He also noted that purchase intent for business buyers hit a new high of 81 percent:

The latest survey of U.S. consumers from 451 Research indicates that across all iPhone models, customer satisfaction was at 96 percent. Combining just the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X, it was even higher at 98 percent. Among business buyers who plan to purchase smartphones in the September quarter, 81 percent plan to purchase iPhones, up three points from the last survey.
