The M4 MacBook Pro has the longest battery life ever in a Mac

Apple just launched its brand new M4 MacBook Pro, the last in a trio of Mac announcements made this week. Along with upgrades to the chip, display, and camera, Apple claims the new MacBook Pro has the best battery life ever in a Mac. Here’s what that means.

Big battery upgrades for entire M4 lineup

Apple’s MacBook Pro is a versatile device that comes in two different screen sizes and with three different chips. As a result, battery life varies between models.

That said, all M4 MacBook Pro models have better battery life than their M3 equivalents. And with most models, that equals “the longest ever [battery life] in a Mac.”

  • MacBook Pro (14-inch) with M4 features up to 24 hours battery
  • MacBook Pro (14-inch) with M4 Pro/Max features up to 22 hours battery
  • MacBook Pro (16-inch) with M4 Pro/Max features up to 24 hours battery

24 hours is officially the longest battery life ever shipped in a Mac.

Last year’s M3 models got great battery life, but this year’s M4 family are clearly better.

Apple quotes just 18 hours for the M3 Pro/Max MacBook Pro (14-inch). That means you get 4 extra hours this year.

On the M3 (14-inch) and M3 Pro/Max (16-inch) the gains are more modest. Both models had 22 hours per Apple, so you’re gaining 2 hours this year.
