New video shows iPhone 17 Air thinness hands-on: ‘that feels futuristic’

Knowing dimensions is one thing, but holding an iPhone 17 Air dummy model is quite another, as a new video from Unbox Therapy shows quite well.

iPhone 17 Air dummy model impresses Unbox Therapy

Unbox Therapy’s new video shows the full range of iPhone 17 dummy models.

The easy standout of the bunch, by far, was the iPhone 17 Air.

Lewis George Hilsenteger (“Lew”) reacts to the ultra-thin new model in ways that seem a surprise even to himself.

Upon picking it up, he immediately says, “That feels futuristic” and worries about its potential for bending.

He also measures the model on camera, showing it as 5.65mm at its thinnest point, down from 8.75mm for the iPhone 17 Pro Max model he also holds.

His conclusion? “It feels like half. It’s not half, but it feels like half.”

I have the feeling that the Air is Apple ‘testing the waters’ for a thin device which will lead into the upcoming foldable. I imagine the foldable will literally be the Air with another screen attached.

Overall, bending concerns aside, Lew confesses that he can’t imagine anyone wanting to buy any of Apple’s other iPhone models once they can get their hands on a 17 Air.
