iOS devices refer to any of Apple’s hardware that runs the iOS mobile operating system which include iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Historically, Apple releases a new iOS version once a year, the current version is iOS 10. Here is the complete list of iOS 10 compatible devices.
Some speculation exists claiming Apple may be migrating its iTunes services to services hosted at its growing North Carolina data center this Thanksgiving.
This speculation is based on information provided to Apple developers in which the company warns that its traditional Christmas period shut down of the iTunes Connect service will this year also see a similar shut down happen at Thanksgiving. Expand Expanding Close
Despite ramped-up competition, Apple should achieve at least 22.5 million iPad sales in 2011 — and that’s not analyst bluster or wishful thinking but the conservative estimate of Apple competitor, ViewSonic.
Apple’s iPad is seeing the same widescale deployment as any previous tablet device, turning up in people’s homes, the enterprise, in medical and education and — now — also in the US Army, where Textron Systems has developed a troop movement tracking app for iPad. Expand Expanding Close
You know that cool iDOS app from this morning? The one on the App Store for about four hours? Well if you’re not familiar it is an emulator for all iOS devices (retina support too!) that allows you to run DOS files as well as Windows 3.0. Now that users have gotten the chance to play around, some are reporting that the application allows you to access the entire iOS filesystem- without a jailbreak. Interesting feature, perhaps that’s why Apple got rid of it.
According to TechCrunch, Apple is in early discussions to buy music streaming service Spotify. Spotify is an incredibly hot music service in Europe but hasn’t been able to get a footing in the US. (They haven’t been able to sign one label).
Some put the blame on Apple for that and accuse Cupertino of threatening lost wages from iTunes if the labels sign up for the streaming service. Apple approved Spotify for use on the iPhone in Europe in April of last year so Apple probably has some definitive proof of lost revenue, if that is the case.
A $1 billion Spotify deal with Google was apparently close to completion last year but the deal fell through because Google was “demanding that all label deals be grandfathered in. And Spotify wanted a $800 million+ walk away fee if the deal faltered (Google had a similar provision in their Admob acquisition)”.
Apple bought streaming music service Lala at the same time as Google flirt with Spotify but all of Lala’s label deals disintegrated when they got purchased (as per their contracts) and Apple was left with the engineering talent and technology. Spotify’s label deals are likely of the same nature so, to me, it is surprising that Apple would be after another set of streaming engineers, another set of technology and some more people with music industry experience. They clearly have some plans for all of that space in North Carolina.
Update: Spotify contactedCNET to let them know they have no intention to sell the company.

Apple continues to test its streaming media systems, this time promising Australian iOS users free streaming access to five performances at this year’s ARIA music Awards.
Mac Stories is reporting that Apple’s Apple Store iPhone/iPod touch application will be receiving a minor update in the near future. This update will include a feature that recognizes when you enter an Apple Store you have a reservation at, and will ask you if you want to confirm your reservation. You’ll also get a popup with the picture of the Apple employee helping you so you can find them more easily.
On the customer end, it appears the Apple Store application will be updated to integrate with Apple’s ecosystem. As the ability to make reservations is already in place, you’ll receive a push notification as you enter the store asking if you’d like to check-in. You’ll then be notified of your waiting time (your position in the queue), and who you’ll be meeting up with via a photo of the employee. You also may receive helpful hints as you enter the store, so that you can request services via your iPhone. It’s a very streamlined process.
A security hole in iPhone 4 software allows you to make a call after dialing a few pound signs and timing a few others as found by a MacForums member.
When you iPhone is locked with a passcode tap Emergency Call, then enter a non-emergency number such as ###. Next tap the call button and immediately hit the lock button. It should open up the Phone app where you can see all your contacts, call any number, etc.

Back in January 2010 Apple announced that the hardware switch on the side of the iPad would be a mute switch, just like on the iPhone. Then, closer to the product’s launch in March of this year, Apple revealed that the mute-switch magically transformed into a very handy orientation-lock. Now with iOS 4.2 for iPad, Apple again transformed the hardware switch’s purpose and now it is once again a mute-switch. As we now know, you can lock the iPad’s screen orientation via a menu to the left of the multitasking dock.
Since Apple is clearly able to change the switch’s purpose via a software update, many have wondered if Apple would make an option in settings for the user to choose whether they want it as an orientation lock or as a mute switch. Well today, we have the answer and it comes straight from the top. Reader, Robert Novak, sent an e-mail to Steve Jobs asking:
In IOS 4.2 for iPad is the switch on the side going to be the mute and not screen orientation lock from now on?
As we all know by now, FaceTime for iOS does not work in multiple Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Kuwait. The reason has never completely been determined, but according to Apple and other sources, the reason lies with the mobile phone carriers. Now that FaceTime for Mac is out, people have wondered if the same restrictions would apply.
SaudiMac notes that FaceTime for Mac does not allow you to select Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, or Egypt as your location. This means that FaceTime for Mac is not really supposed to be supported for users in those nations. Just because you are in one of those locations does not stop you from telling FaceTime that you are in the United States, for example. Simply put your location as another country and you’re good to go; FaceTime for Mac will work. For those whose FaceTime already has the United States (or another supported location) as the default country, just don’t change it.
The other day we told you about NitoTV, the first app for jailbroken Apple TVs. The app is essentially an RSS reader for your big screen and also does things such as weather. People have been curious as to how they can install the app on their own Apple TVs and here are the instructions courtesy of MuscleNerd:
1) SSH into your Apple TV2, the default password is “alpine”
2) Type “passwd” and enter a new password (if you haven’t already)
3) Type: echo “deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
4) Type: apt-get update
5) Type: apt-get install com.nito.nitoTV
6) Type: killall Lowtide
7) Enjoy
In terms of jailbreaking, it’s best to use Pwnagetool as some commenters on the instructions have had less success with GreenPois0n.
Here’s interesting, buried deep inside the new beta FaceTime for Mac is code which alerts you when you receive an incoming FaceTime call — even when you haven’t got the software active on your Mac. Apple says as much on their Website:
The theory seems sound enough — it is, after all, no more than the same alerts you are already used to receiving from some non-open apps on your iOS device. Through Push Notifications… Expand Expanding Close

Google is already hitting major hurdles in its quest to transform the TV industry, with major US broadcasters blocking their Web shows from being broadcast via Google TV. Google meanwhile is in negotiation to agree rights, but is likely to face similar rectitude from some broadcasters as faced by Apple with Apple TV.
ABC, CBS and NBC have all blocked access to their shows from Google TV. These problems come just weeks since Logitech and Sony began selling devices running Google’s software. Hulu this week also moved to block Google TV from acccessing its service. Expand Expanding Close
