The devices that run the world’s most advanced mobile operating system

Check out our top stories on iOS Devices:

iOS devices refer to any of Apple’s hardware that runs the iOS mobile operating system which include iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Historically, Apple releases a new iOS version once a year, the current version is iOS 10. Here is the complete list of iOS 10 compatible devices.

New Meizu to have 3.5 inch 960 x 640 display, 1 GHz chip, 512 MB of RAM, and Multi-Touch. Familiar?

When we think Meizu we think iPhone clone. “Good artists copy, great artists steal,” so these guys up in China are good artists apparently. Their user-interfaces appear to agree with the saying as their graphics are pretty hott. Back in 2007, only a few weeks after the iPhone’s introduction, Meizu unveiled their iPhone killer which looked strikingly similar to Cupertino’s offering. It had a metal back, similar UI, touch keyboard, no 3G, but wasn’t so user-friendly and its only marketing was bad PR on gadget-related publications.

Just a few days ago, Meizu unveiled their sequel dubbed the M9 and it may seem similar to some phone announced at WWDC that features antenna issues and no white version. It runs a 1 GHz chip which is fairly similar to Apple’s (Mansfield’s baby) A4 chip, a 960 x 640 resolution (Mansfield’s baby) screen, 512 MB of RAM, and of course Steve Job’s salary maker, multi-touch. Those features are the cornerstones of the iPhone 4. Remember Jobs saying this?: The “Retina display is going to set the standard for displays for the next several years. We don

'Wish You Were Here': iTunes loses Pink Floyd

Site default logo image

Albums from world chart-topping UK act, Pink Floyd, have been removed from iTunes. Some of the best albums, including the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, ‘The Wall’, or ‘Wish You Were Here’ have been removed from all online digital music sales as the group’s contract with EMI has ended.

Pink Floyd did circulate in an attempt to secure a fresh contract earlier this year, but as yet no contract is in place, meaning music from the band can’t legitimately be sold online.

The band are a rare story in the digitsl music era – they sell records. Since 1991, the group has sold more than 36 million albums in the US. In recent years, digital downloads have accounted for about 40 percent of the band

CDMA iPhone and/or next-gen iPad make their field-test debut?

Site default logo image

The block of code above shows that future iPhones and/or iPads are in field testing and don’t need to be activated via iTunes. Essentially, this code bypasses the need for the usual iOS device activation in iTunes for unreleased products so testers can get to their job quicker. Activations are a pain!

The tipster said this code has been inserted ahead of product launches for the past few years.  That means a device which requires activation is being tested right about now and should be heading our way soon.  What do you think?  Smaller iPad?  iPod 3G?  or CDMA iPhone?

New Apple hire confirms iPhone 5 as 'iWallet'

Site default logo image

If you’ve been wondering what to expect from iPhone 5, the next-generation, beyond an all-new and improved antenna, then let me share a few ideas with you — your iPhone will be your wallet, your house keys, your identity, the centre of your mobile existence. At least, that’s how it appears on news of Apple’s hiring of near field communications (NFC) expert, Benjamin Vigier.

iPod touch cases with camera holes go on sale at Alibaba

Site default logo image

We know from last year, that case manufacturers can be wrong on their iPod form factor guesses.  No less than five or six were making iPod touch cases with holes in the center for cameras in a design which Apple chose not to follow (though plenty of prototypes have turned up with this design – it is easy to speculate that the rogue Apple employee might have leaked these?)

Fast forward to today, where we are seeing the first such iPod 4G cases.  These seem to have a camera in the same general area as the iPhone.

There has been some concern about whether or not the thickness of the iPod would allow for cameras as good as the iPhone 4’s 5-megapixel beauty.

We’re pretty sure Apple’s going to find a way to squeeze something good in there.  But, will it fit in this case?  From last year, we know you have to wait until Jobs makes an announcement to find out.  Another shot below.  (Thanks Dhobbs!)

Overheating iPod stops rush hour trains in Japan

Site default logo image

An overheating Apple iPod bought trains on Tokyo’s insanely busy commuter train network to an unscheduled stop for eight minutes during the city’s early morning rush hour this morning, Reuters reports.

The train was stopped at around 8.20am (Japan) in western Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward while officials investigated the cause of the smell, said a spokesman for Tokyu Corp.

“When a member of staff went to investigate inside the train, a passenger came over showing him that the iPod she was listening to had burst apart,” the spokesman told Reuters, confirming local reports.

The timing is extremely bad. Apple was last month ordered to improve safety warnings following cases of overheating among its first-generation iPod nanos. Apple has since offered to fix these units, explaining that a bad batch of batteries has been the culprit.

What isn’t clear in the current case – the sixtieth known in Japan so far – is what make or model of iPod caused the delay on a line used by one million commuters each day.

Adobe fixes Photoshop Express

Site default logo image

Numerous readers wrote in to let us know that Adobe’s Photoshop Express for iOS is literally complete garbage. The app constantly crashed on start up for many users and the app’s App Store comments are flooded with users experiencing the issues as well. Adobe was quick to act and an update that supposedly fixes the issues is now available.

Photoshop Express is a universal iOS app that launched yesterday and is formally known as Photoshop.com Mobile. The new application brings many new features including iPad support, but does not bring enhanced graphics for the iPhone 4s Retina display. Let us know in the comments if this update did anything for you.

Apple iPod Operations Manager Paul Shin Devine held in supplier kickback scheme

Paul Shin Devine, 37, of Sunnyvale, California is being held on accusations that he accepted more than $1 million in kickbacks from Asian suppliers of iPhone and iPod accessories.  Also named was  Andrew Ang, of Singapore, in a 23-count federal grand jury indictment for wire fraud, money laundering and kickbacks.

Devine was a Sr. Operations Manager, iPod at Apple Computer for five years.  He worked at Teradyne from 1998-2005 and got a degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 2005.  He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in 1996.

“Apple is committed to the highest ethical standards in the way we do business,” Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said in a statement. “We have zero tolerance for dishonest behavior inside or outside the company.”

The indictment describes a scheme in which Devine used his position at Apple to obtain confidential information, which he transmitted to Apple suppliers, including Ang. In return, the suppliers and manufacturers paid Devine kickbacks, which he shared with Ang. The information enabled the suppliers to negotiate favorable contracts with Apple, according to the indictment. The companies were not named in the indictment, but they were described as suppliers of materials designed for Apple’s iPhone and iPod products. They are located in “various countries in Asia,” the indictment said, including China, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.

Apple is seperately suing Devine and claimed he received more than $1 million in “payments, kickbacks and bribes” over several years.

How come we are still waiting for bumpers?

iPad Playboy app arriving… without the nekked

Site default logo image

Playboy founder and namesake, Hugh Hefner, tweeted the availability of a Playboy app earlier today and noted that Apple would only accept it without the nudity. He even gave Jobso a shoutout saying he “has a thing about nudity.” I bet Jobs called Hefner himself to let him know and hey, maybe he wanted an invite to the grotto.

Oh! Who remembers this?: “The difference [between sex apps and established brand sex apps] is this is a well-known company (Playboy) with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format. We always try to consider the source and intent of the apps when reviewing them.”

There is always the web.

New App Store section helps you provide free marketing for Apple

Site default logo image

At first glance, Apple’s new “Apps to Impress your Friends” section may seem like an innocent section showing you the coolest apps that will surely wow your pals. Look again and you will soon realize the section should be called “Apps to Impress your friends enough to buy an iPhone.” The section includes amazing iPhone exclusives such as Siri Assistant, Ocarina, Red Laser, Bump, and Apple’s own iMovie.

These apps leverage advanced technologies, that work extremely well on iOS. Ocarina will blow your friends away when they see you’re playing an instrument with your breath, Red Laser will blow your friends away when you scan items at the mall, and iMovie will blow them away when you edit and upload your trip footage from your iPhone.

In its most basic fashion, Apple is showcasing apps that will blow people away, but they’re also showcasing apps to blow away the competition. Essentially, these are the apps you show to your friends in order provide free marketing for Apple. Too bad my Air Horn isn’t on there.

Adobe Photoshop Express hits iOS, brings iPad support and plenty of editing tools

Site default logo image

You may recall the Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile app for iPhone and iPod touch and how it provided limited forms of Adobe’s editing tools. Today, the app has been rebranded as Adobe Photoshop Express and now supports the iPad. The app provides all the basic editing tools such as cropping, rotating, and color adjustments.

The iPad version allows users to edit multiple photos simaltaniously in either portrait or landscape. The app is still free universally, and surprisingly does not support the iPhone 4s Retina Display.

Verizon iPhone to have new internal antenna, 3.7 inch retina display, and 1.2 GHz chip?

Site default logo image

DVICE claims they have exclusive legit details of the upcoming Verizon (unicorn) iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 supposedly will gain a 1.2 GHz next-gen A4 chip, a larger 3.7 inch retina display, an all new internal antenna, all in a more durable design. To be honest that just sounds like the probable iPhone 5 launching in June 2011, but okay. We have a really difficult time believing this so were just posting it in case it’s real and for reader interest.

This must be the most unrealistic Verizon iPhone rumor yet, but it still seems plausible that there will be an iPhone 4 launching on Verizon in January that has identical specifications to the current AT&T model. Another possibility, if this is all true, is that the probably iPhone 5 launching in June ’11 will be the first Verizon iPhone (AT&T model too) and will carry the rumored features.

There's a third iAd in town: Citibank hits iPhones…

Site default logo image

Forgive me. I’m still not quite sure what happened in my life that there came a day I’d write a story about a new ad campaign for a bank. For good or ill, that day has come: Apple has fielded a third major brand iAd into its systems, this once comes from Citibank.

The ad promotes the bank chain’s credit cards and iPhone apps, and is quite an innovative little thing, tying as it does people’s ‘real-life’ stories with the iPhone, geo-location and more. It works well.

The new Citibank slot joins ads from Dove soap for men and Nissan, the other two big brand ads inside the Apple system at this time.

Oh — look over there >> that’s how the ad works!! Enjoy.
