iPhone 4 order issues continue, some shipping

Site default logo image

We’re getting reports of users whose iPhone 4 orders (which, frankly weren’t a breeze getting in) have inexplicably been cancelled without reasons given.

This is happening from both Apple and AT&T, and to make matters worse, Apple’s order system is off and on for some people.

But there is some good news.  We’ve also been getting reports, as of last night, that orders are shipping via FedEx.

Thanks Ken, Mark, Bill, Luke and Mike!

55 million iPhone Facebook users can now watch video on their iPhones

Two bits of information for you this morning. First, did you know that there are almost 55 million “monthly active iPhone Facebook users”?!  That is insane, but considering that almost everyone is on Facebook and Apple is coming up on 100 million iOS devices, not unreasonable.

Good news for those 55 million: Facebook updated last night to 3.1.3 which allows you to watch Facebook videos and upload larger 720px wide pictures on the iPhone.  Did we mention that, at some point soon, you’ll be able to upload videos directly to Facebook from the iPhone.

What’s New in Version 3.1.3

New features in this version:

– You can now watch Facebook videos.
– You can now view and write on walls of events.
– Uploaded photos are now 720px wide.

This version contains fixes for the following bugs:

– Could not upload photos smaller than a certain size
– No more than 2 notifications were highlighted as unread
– Status updates appeared out of order in News Feed
– Broken photo album links in News Feed
– Birthdays view had months in wrong order
– Last section of friend list was incomplete if you had fewer than 8 friends
– Notes with non-ASCII text were cut off at the end

Only existing O2 customers can buy iPhone 4 before July 31st

O2 on their Twitter profile announced limited stock of the iPhone 4 for their upcoming launch. To conserve stock O2 has decided to keep the launch exclusive to existing customers until July 31st. This will most likely upset several newcomers but as some advice they can check out the other 6 carriers. Also, they can even blow their piggy bank on an unlocked version so they could use it on any carrier at any time. Now that’s what we call Carrier-hopping.

iPhone 4 begins to reach the wild, Czech report shares pictures, video, more

First glances at the iPhone 4 are beginning to pop up, with one Czech reviewer publishing lots of images alongside a short video clip taken with the new video camera.

The Czech report warns that the plastic surrounding the glass back and front may be prone to minor scratches. It also informs us that the built-in GPS unit is fast, as is the rest of the device, equipped as it is with 512MB RAM.

One note on battery life: one hour of playing games, surfing, using YouTube and pondering why Google Maps hasn

Welcome to the All-New MobileMe

This morning, Apple unleashed a completely redesigned me.com. MacRumors had it all right and now we’re going to walk you through it with pictures and explanations.

All new splash and log-in page to drool over.

This is the application-switcher we were talking about this morning. As you can see your most prominent me.com features are shown, including Find my iPhone. Hey — it kind of reminds us of the one on OS X

Lots more after the break

The new Mail user-interface from the beta is now live for everyone.

The calendar application has received a slight-makeover with a cleaner and easier to manipulate user-interface.

The photo gallery application has also received a nice clean makeover.

The iDisk application is following the footsteps of the other apps and has gained a much cleaner and simpler user interface. Now there are two main function buttons: An upload and a download (Pretty simple to use, we’d say).

The Find my iPhone application (now iPad also) has received a complete re-design with larger maps and easier to use controls. We’re not going to show you the application fully loaded up (for obvious reasons) but we think you can get a sense that the maps (based on Google) are much larger and presented more clearly.

AT&T to include 3G MicroCell usage against customer data plans

Site default logo image

Boy Genius Report reports that AT&T is making questionable decisions on customer plans. The cell-phone provider, used for the iPhone in the U.S., is known to have poor 3G coverage in many parts of the nation, and because of this have released a device, called MicroCell, to extend ranges by creating 3G hotspots in customer’s homes.

These hotspots work with customer’s already-installed Internet connections to allow phone calls to be made over the Internet. It seems only fair for AT&T to set this service up for people with poor coverage at home, but AT&T also counts MicroCell usage against customer’s data caps. Essentially, AT&T is charging customers to make phone calls and use data over internet connections they already pay for from different companies.   Sure you can switch over to Wifi on your iPhone when you are in Microcell range, but what if, for whatever reason, you don’t switch and you end up getting billed for data from your own Internet connection?

Rethink possible

Apple posts WWDC session videos for all developers

Site default logo image

Apple sent out the following e-mail to all registered developers this morning informing them of their access to over 100 session videos from last week’s WWDC.

All developers are encouraged to visit the WWDC videos website and download the videos in HD for Mac, PC, Apple TV, and iPad and in SD for iPhone and iPod touch from iTunes.

Apple also notes on their developer site that everything in the session videos is confidential information so make sure not to tell any of your friends anything you see in the videos, like that the iPhone 4 has 512 MB of RAM, OK?

Web-based push e-mail, Find my iPhone Universal app, and other enhancements coming to MobileMe. CONFIRMED

Site default logo image

CONFIRMED: Read about the new me.com here and the Find my iPhone app here.

MacRumors reports that when MobileMe comes back from downtime at midnight it will return with several enhancements. Arguably the biggest will be the new mail interface coming out of beta. This new mail site will also bring push mail delivery to customers checking their e-mail on the web.

Another new feature will be the expansion of the Find my iPhone service to the App Store. Apple recently opened up Find my iPhone to the iOS browser, and now there will be a universal application. This universal application is built to work across all devices, without pixel doubling on the iPad, and will be a much quicker gateway to locating your lost device.

Another enhancement will be a redesign of the MobileMe toolbar. The toolbar pictured above will become obsolete, and will be replaced with a single application-switching button.

128 Gigabytes of storage coming to an iOS device near you?

Site default logo image

Today, Toshiba has announced an all new NAND chip for their lineup, and this is a 64 GB chip perfect for iOS devices. The iPod touch and iPad take 2 chips while the iPhone can squeeze only one in. These new chips are set to be let out of their cages Q4 this year — perhaps in time for Apple’s annual September iPod event. Toshiba’s press release says initial shipments of the drives will go out the doors in September, so…

Apple usually gets early access to chips and other parts so it will be no surprise for these new Toshiba flash-based hard drives to make their way into brand-new iOS devices. Since iPod touches and iPads can take in two 64 GB chips we’re thinking a (classic-killing?) 128 GB iPod touch to lead the lineup as well as a new iPad with 128 GB of storage to go with its iOS 4 release and retina display. Since the iPhone can take in one, we’ll most likely see a 64 GB chip in the iPhone coming in a year from now, or even a 64 GB storage boost around the January/February 2011 timeframe.
