The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 is one of the smallest scanners on the market. It is small enough to fit in most bags and is just large enough to fit a normal piece of paper. Read on for the full review.
COMPUTERWORLD: Super-fast and really easy to navigate, the Mac App Store is going to generate huge wads of cash for everyone involved, Apple and its partners — but I do worry that app navigation and developer access to the Mac platform may suffer.
Over the past few weeks I have been testing out Exogear’s Exolife battery case for the iPhone 4 and I have to say it’s not like any battery case you’ve used with your iPhone before. That’s because it is the thinnest and lightest offering on the market. The Exolife hardly adds any weight or thickness to your iPhone 4 so it’s like you’re using a regular case- but you get a battery with it too.
The case itself is made from durable polycarbonate and does a good job of protecting the bottom, top, back, and sides of your iPhone 4. The case is two pieces: a back piece with the battery system and a piece that goes around the iPhone 4’s stainless steel antenna band. This holds the two pieces together in addition to providing protection to the antenna band. Click read more for the full review:

In his best and worst products of 2010 post today, Walt Mossberg declared Apple’s iPad as the number one product of 2010. The iPad is not the only Apple product on the top three list with the iPhone 4 tying at number 3 with the Samsung Galaxy S phone series. 4G networks are number two on the list and the top three worst products (in order) are the Dell Streak, Google TV, and TiVo Premiere.
Taking Walt’s top spot this year was none other than Apple’s iPad. For a 1.0 product, the iPad was amazing. With the new iOS 4.2 operating system and its huge selection of apps, the iPad continues to stay ahead of the competition.
Many iPad keyboard cases have hit the market in recent weeks and we finally got our hands on ZAGG’s ZAGGMate iPad keyboard case for review… and it’s awesome. The ZAGGMate is an iPad keyboard accessory at heart but doubles as a case. The case aspect of the ZAGGMate is not fantastic but the keyboard part may just be the best third-party implementation we’ve seen. Check out our review after the break:
I’ve been using the Energizer Qi wireless induction charger for iPhone for the past few weeks and think it might deserve a place in our household. The concept is pretty straightforward. You put a protective jacket over the iPhone which also serves as a receptor for the induction charge. Instead of plugging in a 30-pin adapter to your iPhone every time you want to charge it, you just plot it down on its Qi-spot.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jubhpnxK8wc&w=640&h=385]
I should also note that touching the charger points with fingers (even with metal rings) is safe. The Energizer Qi retails at Amazon and Target for $89 and should be hitting stores in about 2 weeks. The rubberized case for the iPhone is an additional $35.
Competitors include the poorly rated Powermat and the Duracell MyGrid which also scores low.

Otterbox’s Impact Series case for iPhone 4 is a fantastic and versatile case offering. It is not as strong as the Defender Series case but it does the job much better than many iPhone 4 cases. The case itself is made from relativity tough silicon yet is still slim. Although it’s slim it’s built well enough to protect your iPhone 4 from drops, nicks, knocks, and scratches.
The side volume buttons are completely covered, there is a hole for the silent/ringer switch, there is an opening for both the iPhone 4 camera and LED flash, as well as an opening for the ear piece. There is an opening on the back of the case so that shiny Apple logo is always in prime view and the home button is completely covered…

If you are an Apple customer who’ve had a 30-inch display since the time Apple announced they’d be going from DVI adapters to Mini DisplayPort, you’ve probably gone through the wringer like me.

Display flicker Issues with Apple’s adapter
That link is to the timeline up until last year. I’m not alone, here are two Apple Discussions threads with thousands of people with similar problems:

Amazon too
Now Apple’s product, after three firmware updates over two years and significant user outrage, mostly works, but I still have a problem pictured above often when I return to my Dell and HP monitors after sleep. By clicking input on my monitor and shutting it off and on a few times, it snaps back into shape. But that is a pain especially since I can hook up my DVI MacBook Pro without issue (and it works fine on my Unibody running Windows in Bootcamp!) What to do? Kanex to the rescue…

We’ve spent the past month with the Hitachi G-Drive Mobile ($128) which is an attractive Firewire/USB portable hard drive that will look great next to your Unibody MacBook Pro. But are the aesthetics worth the price?
The popular media player, VLC, made its way to the iPad just a few weeks ago, and the company behind the application, Applidium, has just submitted a version for the iPhone. Here’s our exclusive hands-on of VLC Media Player for iPhone:

Oh, and as you see in the video we had a really hard time playing a 720p video on an iPhone 4.
Tim Gideon over at PC Mag has done a great video walkthrough and review of the new Apple TV. Check it out:

They also posted a great Apple TV unboxing slideshow, check it out. And a great full written review!
Wow. So MacSpeech is no more. First MacSpeech ditched their own speech recognition engine for the market and technology leader Nuance in 2008. Then, Nuance bought the Macintosh speech recognition program earlier this year, and the ‘MacSpeech’ brand was up in the air. Now it is officially Dragon Dictate 2 for Mac. (MacSpeech Scribe still exists)
Nevermind the name. The product is solid. I’ve been playing with the new Nuance Dragon Dictate 2 for Mac which uses the same best-in-class speech recognition engine as Dictate 11 for PC, and have to say this is a more than worthy upgrade.
The biggest difference for me, straight out of the box, is that you don’t have to use a USB/Bluetooth microphone. I was able to set the program up to use my MacBook Pro’s built in mic. At a normal distance it is able to recognize my voice in a quiet room. If there is any kind of noise in your work environment or you need better accuracy, use a USB or Bluetooth headset. A cheap but functional USB headset is supplied with the boxed version but you’ll be much happier with a $20 Plantronics from Amazon.
The accuracy with a headset seems at least as good as the previous version and probably better. I usually go a few paragraphs between missed words, and that is often the result of my mumbling or using a word that no dictionary would recognize. There is a 20 minute training program at the beginning but you’ll be impressed at the results even if you don’t spend the time training (I imported my profile from a previous version).
Another nice thing about this version is that it allows multiple microphone profiles per user. I use the built in Mac mic in my office but a Logitech headset when I’m out and about. I could add one of those in ear Bluetooth headsets if I wanted to look like a douche…but I’ll pass.
One other interesting new feature I’ve been playing with is the ‘mouse movements’ via speech. You can actually move your mouse around the screen with voice commands (see directions below).
Overall, a great product gets even better. Let’s hope they get to name parity with the PC version next time around.
Dragon Dictate 2 for Mac is available for $199 retail package or $179 for software download only and $49 for an upgrade from MacSpeech 1.x.
Aidacase’s iPad case seems like a dream. It’s a full on folio-style iPad case that flips open to reveal an external full-sized physical keyboard. This keyboard connects to the iPad via bluetooth, charges through USB and delivers a whopping 45 hours of battery life. That’s 4.5 times longer than your average daily iPad battery life. As a case, the “keycase” functions like a champ. Simply lock it into place using the magnetic latch and you’re good to go.

The keyboard is made from silicon so its durable and includes the USB charging cable. To remove the hassle, the keyboard works seamlessly with iOS to reconnect instantly whenever you want to type. The case ships in 1-2 business days and is available for $30 off at Amazon for just $99.
A neat little jailbreak-only tweak has been released today and that is the ability to have a home page in Safari for iOS. The tweak is incredibly simple to setup, and developer, Will Strafach, gets huge props for that. You simply hit the “+” on either an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch and click the “Set as Home” button. This is the same menu used to make home screen shortcuts and to email and bookmark sites.
If you like having a home page on your Mac or PC computer this is a great installion for you. Personally, it does not make much sense for my iPhone, but I find it incredibly handy on the iPad as it is more computer-like. The tweak, “Home Page in Safari,” is available now for $0.99 on the Cydia store for all iOS devices. If you are having installing troubles (server issues) just try back later.
The new iPods will be arriving in stores tomorrow and many will be getting them in the mail over the next few days as well. Fittingly, Apple has lifted the embargo on reviews and they’ve come flooding in.
Engadget weighs the pros and cons of the new Touch:

As we noted last week, the iPod touch doesn’t get the same IPS display as the iPhone (above). It doesn’t have a GPS or a good still camera either. But that’s about the only bad things you can say about these things which for many will be fantastic portable devices. It gains A4 processor, Retina display, front and back cameras, gyroscope, and vibrate. They continue to have the same price-points (Apple sold a previous generation 8GB version for $199 before)
I personally would have traded a few millimeters of thickness for even a two or three megapixel still camera and GPS. The screen angle differences in the real world won’t matter that much. On the Flip side, cameras add a whole new dimension to these devices and gaming with the new screen, processor, Gyros and A4 chip is going to be on a whole other level.
The Nano review, because it is an entirely new form factor, is a bit more interesting…
If you’re like Jobs you’d say “who wants a stylus?” If you’re not Apple’s CEO, then you may want to check out Just Mobile’s Alupen. It’s crafted from premium, long-lasting alu-min-ium (Ive style) and looks awesome. It’s as tall as your iPhone, and slightly thicker than ye olde’ number 2 pencil.

The stylus works great as a… stylus (didya guess?) and if you were thinking about getting a stylus for your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, it has never been a better time now that the Alupen has met light. You can get your own for like 20 bucks at Just Mobile’s online store. And hey… we just might give a few of these away sometime, we just might.
A few weeks back we reviewed Speck’s PixelSkin for the iPhone 4, and much of that review still stands strong for the PixelSkin HD. Right of the bat, the PixelSkin HD is my go-to case as it offers great protection, usability, portability and design. The PixelSkin HD is thinner then the standard PixelSkin yet the protection it offers is very similar. Your iPhone 4 is protected at all corners with this touch-silicon case.
The volume rocker is protected by the case, yet is still fully functional. The silent/ringer switch is accessible and won’t be affected by drops and knocks. The same goes for the top noise-suppressing microphone and the earphone jack. The sleep/wake button is fully protected like the volume rocker and the 30 pin dock connector is fully usable with any cable. The iPhone ear-piece and front facing camera are fully open so you won’t run into any communication issues.
The back camera and LED flash are also open and you should not experience any of those LED flash issues that some other cases create. In terms of camera/LED flash and screen protection, this case does a great job without covering those functions. The case extends higher than the screen, camera, and LED flash to when hit, dropped, or knocked into, it won’t be affected. This ensures that screen shattering and camera breakage are less likely to occur.
Speck’s PixelSkin HD is a fantastic case and is surely one of the best on the market. It has a great design and offers fantastic protection for your iPhone 4. It also does this at a great price and the lowest we found for you is just around $22 and you can get that here.
We would also like to thank Speck for sponsoring our iPad case of your choice giveaway on Twitter. The contest ends at 10 PM EST. tonight and all you need to do is follow @9to5mac and RT this tweet. We also would like to congratulate reader, Noah D. on winning yesterday and we can’t wait to find out who wins tonight and tomorrow night!
The Just Mobile Gum Plus is a stylish aluminum battery charger and can charge your iPhone to 90% within one hour. The device is physically small, but its internal battery-juice storage is massive. The Gum Plus has a battery capacity of 4400 mAh which means it can charge your iPhone up four times. That’s four times on a single charge of the Gum Plus.
The mechanism to display the amount of juice left in the charger is very similar to Apple’s system on the unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro line. You simply press a small mechanical button on top and the LED indicators will light up out of five levels.
The design of this product is fantastic and is quite solid. The materials are of the golden standard in the accessory industry and are certainly built to last. The charger is even one of the few iPod and iPhone certified external charging devices. Connection to your device is via a standard 30 Pin USB cable which is included with the Gum Plus. The charger even comes with a carrying pouch for portability.
We tested this device on an iPhone 4 and iPad, and it worked well with both devices. Both iOS devices met the promised 90% charge within an hour mark and we are overall very impressed. Going back to the build quality it is worth mentioning that the high-capacity 1A battery uses quailty Sanyo batteries rather than short lasting standard batteries.
Just Mobile’s Gum Plus is a fantastic external battery charger for your iPod, iPhone, and iPad. It’s simple, intuitive, and beautifully designed. It’s packed with a high-grade fast and long lasting battery, a quick control to check the juice, a USB cable, and a carrying pouch. We recommend the accessory for anyone in the market for an external battery charger with a great design at a fairly good price. This charger is perfect for anyone who is not able to always get to a charger or for people experiencing bad device battery life.
You can get one here for about $10 off at just around $50. That was the best deal we could find. Additionally there is a pro version in black available for just under $60.
We usually write up long and extensive reviews of the products we choose to review, but today is a little different. It’s different in the sense that were are reviewing a mousepad and mousepads are so last century. Now that we got the Magic Trackpad, and mice that don’t need special surfaces to function, many people don’t find the need to use a mousepad.

Although this is true, Just Mobile’s Alupad is not your standard one made from poor-quaility materials, but is made from precisely cut anodized aluminum that is fused to a high-quailty plasticky overlay. The mousepad’s build quality is extremely substantial and is rock solid. Like other Just Mobile offerings, this is the mousepad Apple would create — Most likely to be dubbed Magic Mousepad. Mice are easily maneuverable on this trackpad and the height is perfect for any desk. As usual, this Just Mobile product fits in perfectly with Apple’s industrial design.
Just Mobile’s Alupad is a great mousepad for those who find the need for it, and it’s also a great novelty item and gift with its fantastic build quality, design, and durability. You can get a Just Mobile Alupad here at 30% off for just over $35. — That’s the lowest price we could find. If they run out of them at that link you can get one here for the regular price of $49.99. Happy tracking!
Just Mobile’s Xtand for iPhone is a high-quality aluminum stand that elegantly and economically houses your iPhone wherever you wish. The design of the stand takes cues from Apple’s iMac stand and has rubber lining on the bottom to maintain a grip to the surface you choose to leave it on. The aluminum is cut with precision and has a very solid feel. The product does not seem cheap, but seems like it was built to last.
The stand ships with three essential pieces that you need to assemble. Assembly is very simple as all you have to do is screw the base to actual piece that houses the iPhone. The screw is not like your everyday screw as a screw driver is not needed. The piece that houses the iPhone in the stand uses 4 soft rubber pieces to keep your phone in place.

When using the iPhone while it’s in the stand, the stand won’t tip. The experience is great and it’s almost like using a super-mini iMac. The stand can be easily adjusted into portrait or landscape so it is great for watching movies, typing with a keyboard, and especially for FaceTime calls.
The Xtand for iPhone is a great iPhone stand as it has fantastic build quality, and simply fits in with the rest of Apple’s products, in terms of industrial design. The stand makes some of the iPhone’s features even easier to use such as FaceTime, watching movies, and viewing photos. We recommend it for anyone who wants one of the best iPhone stands on the market.
You can get one here for all iPhone models at almost 20% off for under $33. Just Mobile even makes an iPod touch version which you can here for the same iPhone discounted price. There is also an Xtand Pro that is built for the MacBook/MacBook Pro at 26% off for under $74. Be sure to check out our Just Mobile Upstand review which is a similar stand for iPad.
Griffin Technology is a company that has been in the accessory business for a long time. They can even be considered one of the pioneers of iPod cases, releasing a case soon after the first iPod’s launch. Since then everything followed logically with their popular iTrip, and now cases for the iPhone and iPad. In this review we will be covering five of Griffin’s most popular cases for iPhone 4 and iPad. For the iPad we review the Elan Passport, Elan Sleeve, and the Jumper. For iPhone 4 we cover the Outfit Ice and Elan Passport Wallet case.

Griffin’s Elan Passport is a fantastic iPad case which leverages the Folio style. The case opens just like book, as you can see above, and features a microsuede interior. This interior is soft, and ensures protection from scratches for the iPad. The iPad clips in via 4 strong high-quality straps. These straps keep the iPad in place, and do a phenomenal job at it. We took the the case, and shook it all we could and the iPad didn’t even seem to move at all. If you drop you iPad in this case you are completely covered. The edges of the iPad do not creep out of the case at all which means they won’t touch what they are impacted against.
The back and front of the folio-case is tough, so you should not have any issues such as dents or nicks occur. To keep the case closed, a big strap is present. The strap won’t become undone by itself and is fairly easy to remove and put back into place. The case even has spots to store business and credit cards. This case can make your iPad a great organizer. If you like folio-style cases that offer great protection for a great price, this is the case for you. You can get one here in black or in beige for under $50.

The Jumper is Griffin’s take on a quick and easy iPad sleeve case. The case is thin, yet offers full protection from scratches, dents, nicks, and the other usual suspects. It’s compact enough to throw in a backpack, and the iPad easily slips in and out with force by a human hand. You can put the iPad in the case and no matter how hard you shake it, it won’t fall out. Unless you’re Mike Tyson or Shaq that is. The interior is made from a ridiculously soft, “furry” material that surely prevents scratches, it may even clean your screen when you take the iPad in and out.
We recommend the Jumper iPad case for anyone who likes the sleeve style. Griffin’s take on this style is one of the best on the market and you can get one here over 40% off for under $18. — This is the best deal we found.

Griffin’s Elan Sleeve is similar to the Jumper as they are both sleeves, but the design is drastically different. The Elan Sleeve is made from synthetic leather and has a very soft, suede interior. The case has a strap latch on top that you can easily pull in and out. The case offers great protection all around the device, and the only features accessible when closed are the sleep/wake/power button and earphone jack.
We recommend this case for those who like leather-designs and sleeve cases. This is the perfect case to put in your backpack, as well as a good iPad protector. You can get one here for over 50% off at under $25. — That’s the best deal we could find.

The Outfit Ice case for iPhone 4 offers great protection in a great amount of colors. The case ships in red, blue, black, and pink, and they each look uniquely “cool as ice.” The case covers all aspects of the iPhone 4, and anywhere the phone is hit, there is protection. The case goes beyond the edges, top, and bottom of the iPhone which means the case will be hit on impact, not the phone. The case provides easy access to the all the ports and buttons including the volume rocker, silent switch, power button, earphone jack, both microphones, the speaker, and dock connection port.
The case is fairly thin and is no bother to have in your bag or your pocket. The case is two parts and they easily snap together and won’t easily come apart if dropped. There is a hole for the camera and LED flash, and the case will not distort the flash like some other cases on the market. We highly recommend this case for it’s versatility, design, thinness, protection, and choice of colors. You can get one here for under $30.

The Griffin Elan Wallet case saves your pockets or bags some room, as it combines an iPhone case and a card holder. I’m not one to review wallets, but the case only has room for a few cards. You can try to squeeze in some more by stacking and there’s a little fold under to keep some cash. As a case it offers great protection for the front of the iPhone, and even protects the home button. Although this is true, some users may have a difficult time typing in some orientation. — Overall this is a “non-issue”
The ringer controls are only accessible when the wallet flap is open, but the other controls are always accessible, besides the screen of course. The overall protection is substantial and we recommend this for anyone who is interested in the interesting concept of having a wallet/iPhone case hybrid.
You can get one here for 46% off at under $19. — That is the best deal we could find.
As a person who goes through plenty of iPhone 4 cases, I’ve become pretty picky. I review many cases, as readers know, and I usually have plenty good things to say about them. Just because the cases may be great and do what they say they do, doesn’t mean I can stand wearing them after the usual review period. This has nothing to do with the case’s abilities and design, but just personal preference. Vaja’s iVolution Top is very different, I can’t seem to want to take this off my iPhone 4.

First of all, the case is very convenient. It’s thin, and it offers protection that many cases don’t. That flap you see above that covers the screen is the best way to protect the screen while not in use. Simply flip it up, throw it in your pocket or bag and done. Screen protected. There is also open access to the speaker, microphones, volume rocker, silent switch, earphone jack, and power/sleep/wake button. The bottom is fully protected for drops but the top is a different story.
Depending on the angle of the fall, the top edges of the phone will either receive impact on the stainless steel antenna band or on the edge of the case. It seems to be a 50/50 shot at this point. The camera and flash are completely open so you won’t need to worry about that. To be honest the openness at the top is a bit of a protection issue, but in the long run a Vaja case is for style and is built for design, not mainly for protection. If you want the best protection on the planet go for the Otterbox Defender.

The case has incredible design. The leather it’s made out of is 100% genuine and is manufactured in Argentina. The materials are strong, long lasting, and it does not seem like a case that will ever rip. Flipping the flap is easy to do, and it easily stations to the top of the iPhone 4 when closed. When in use, it’s no bother to have the flip down.
We recommend this case to anyone who enjoys premium-build quality, excellent design, and the function of having the flip to cover the screen while not in use. You can find one here for around $80-$85. Also be sure to check out the iPad version here.
The Marware C.E.O. Premiere and SportGrip are two completely different types of cases, but when put together they offer great protection. The C.E.O. Premiere is a folio style case while the SportGrip is a thin and well-designed silicon sleeve type accessory.

Marware C.E.O Premiere:
Pictured above is the case and it is made out of premium genuine-leather and is a great offering for anyone who enjoys the versatility of having a folio iPhone case. You slide your phone into the pouch compartment and then pull the leather top over which sticks via velcro. The velcro is made from a special material so it won’t rip and it’s also sewed into the case so it won’t come apart like some other products. The case is very-well stitched and this creates a very durable and long lasting design. The speaker, microphone, headset jack, and sleep/wake/power buttons are all accessible from the top or bottom of the case.
The dock connector and volume keys are not accessible and this seems obvious as there are straps to prevent the case from falling out. The case’s design prevents dents and nicks as there is room between all sides of the phone and the tip of the case. The sides of the case are open for access to the aforementioned buttons but there are straps to prevent the iPhone 4 from falling. The bottom of the case has a small opening where the micro-sim slot is, but the hole is not large enough for the phone to fall through.
I’ve personally ran while using this case clipped to my shorts and I had absolutely no issues. There was not even a sense of the iPhone 4 falling out of the case. The clip is well built and clips to your clothes in a way that it won’t fall off.
We highly recommend the Marware C.E.O Premiere as it is one of the best designed and protective folio-cases on the market currently. It comes in either black or brown, both with a white stripe, and they are both very stylish The case has a suggested retail price of $34.99 and you find one here.

Marware SportGrip:
The Marware SportGrip for iPhone 4 is a good silicon sleeve that offers decent protection. The back is a fairly thin silicon layer while the sides are made out of thick silicon. There are holes for the camera, LED flash, speaker, dock connection port, both microphones, and the headset jack. When the case is out by itself without a phone in place don’t be fooled by it’s weak appearance. When you place the iPhone 4 in the SportGrip you immediately get the well-protected feeling.
The case will prevent scuffs, and light to fairly medium dents on the sides. The case is taller than the top of the screen which helps to prevent screen shatters. This goes for the front and the back. The back’s thin silicon layer will prevent scratches more than damage but that is where the thick sides come into play. This case is not perfect on its own but it’s a fantastic compliment to the C.E.O. Premiere Folio cases. It’s the perfect case to put your iPhone 4 in then put in the folio. It fits perfectly and is easy enough to take in and out with no worries.
The SportGrip ships in six colors: black, blue, white, pink, red, and frosted. You can get one here for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
How can a simple stand for the iPad be so great? Well it all comes down to Just Mobile’s company motto, “form and function.” It’s almost like Apple’s take on product creation, and Just Mobile nearly seems like the Apple of accessories. To start off, the packaging. Apple is known for their stunning packaging that is well-designed and provides protection for the product it’s shipping. Apple stays away from the poorly designed cardboard boxes other companies use, and so does Just Mobile.

Getting to the actual UpStand, it’s one gorgeous and “super-precise” accessory. It’s crafted from high-grade aluminum to create its very solid construction. It ships put together so all you have to do is find where you want to put it, and set your iPad down. The place where you set the iPad down is bolted to two super-strong aluminum poles that are fused to the stand’s base. The base is in the shape of a circle so no matter what it will not tip. The stand has non-slip rubber lining along the sides so the back of the iPad does not scratch as well as to prevent the iPad from slipping.
Continue reading:

The base of the stand is also non-slip to provide the same security for your device. You can see in the photographs how nice of an addition the stand really is. It also fits the industrial-design of Apple’s products. If Apple were to make an iPad stand it would surely look like this. Furthermore, it all fits together when setup with an Apple wireless keyboard. It makes an awesome stand when you want to do typing with they keyboard. This experience can get even cooler if you setup a mouse for your iPad via some sort of jailbreak-only application.

We highly recommend Just Mobile’s UpStand iPad stand for anyone looking for the best designed and constructed stand on the market. It helps with typing, watching videos, and just about anything. You can even put the iPad in portrait to use the photo-frame functions. The stand sells for $49.99 and you can purchase one here.
