RadioShack dropping 16 GB iPhone 5s to $99 Friday, free if you trade in an iPhone 4s

iphone-5s-deal

RadioShack is planning a new iPhone promotion starting tomorrow that will let new or upgrading users get an iPhone 5s at a significant discount. The 16 GB model of Apple’s latest smartphone will be available for $99, down from the usual price of $199 for all customers on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

Customers who bring in a “eligible” iPhone 4s (which usually just means “in pretty good shape”), will also get a $100 credit towards their iPhone 5s purchase, which knocks the price down to a very manageable $0.

The promotion kicks off tomorrow, April 18th and will be available in physical stores or online. We’re not sure how long the promo will run, but it’s certainly not going to be a permanent price change, so jump on this if you’re looking for a great deal on an iPhone 5s.

im not sure why trading in a iPhone 4s for for $100 is a good deal for anyone!

Without a 2-year contract required? WOW THAT’S A GREAT DEAL

If you have a 4S, the 5S is free.

Hmmm… My wife and I just upgraded our 4s iPhones at the local Apple store and received $199 each for recycling them. We both upgraded to 64 GB 5s iPhones. So, just how good is that Radio Shack trade in?

OMG! we only have ‘the source’ here now ever since radio shack moved out

The contract is a total rip-off….I paid over $400 for my phone, and I pay $100.89 a month for my phone bill…and I have the minimum 400 minute plan. That is over $2400 for a 2-year contract in phone bill charges. Looks like it would have been much much cheaper to buy the phone straight out and avoid getting into this contract, because the $100 phone bill is astronomical. I can’t seem to get it any cheaper on AT&T unless I do away with text and internet access. Still it would be near $60/month. TOO EXPENSIVE

That price is for a 64GB iPhone 5 purchased at the Apple Store last year with a 2-year contract with AT&T. Standard plan.

In total, cost for the phone and under 2 years of the contract will be around $3000!

Buy outright & go to T-Mobile unlimited everything for $60 per month

      • I’m a senior on a fixed income. Thinking of buying my first smartphone (now using a prepaid flip). I love my iMac computer, so I want the Apple 5s. Thinking T-Mobile is the way to go (even though I don’t text). T-Mobile says I can buy the 5s over time for $27/mo + $50/mo = $77/mo for the basic plan (unlimited talk, text and web, up to 500 MB data). Paying outright for the phone, as you suggest might be a bit much for me. What do you think?

This doesn’t seem like a bad deal if you want that phone.

People rant against the overall price of the contract but fail to mention what you get. And anyone who doesnt “renegotiate” as their contract winds down is foolish.
When you’ve got six months left on your contract, call your carriers retention department and start the dealing.

Also the pay-as-you go plans often have lousy coverage. And if you shell out $600 for a phone only you’re screwed if the coverage sucks.

Read the fine print. On AT&T Mobile Share plans, each smartphone will cost you $15/month when not under contract; $40/month WHEN UNDER CONTRACT. If you are in a situation where you have no contract and are using an iPhone 4s, by taking advantage of this deal you are agreeing to be under contract and therefore pay an additional $25/month for two years. 24 Months X $25/month=$600 iphone.
