Apple’s plans for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, & iPhone 4s

Today we saw two new iPhone models – 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays for the first time – but what about Apple’s plans for the 4-inch iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and 3.5-inch iPhone 4s?

While there was no new 4-inch model in the 2014 iPhone lineup, Apple has lowered the price of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models to $99 and $0 on contact, respectively.

The iPhone 4s, however, has been dropped from the new iPhone lineup altogether with the iPhone 5c taking its former price point. App developers will still have to target the iPhone 4s display size – 3.5-inch – as iOS 8 supports iPhone 4s and higher.

Alongside the new pricing and storage tiers for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Apple also announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L details, pricing, and availability today.

16GB? come on. That makes me angry they wouldnt make them starting at 32GB.

They should have dropped support for the 4s in iOS 8.

It’s already been supported beyond what one would expect, and far, FAR beyond what the stated support options were when it was new.

So everyone I’ll be buying the 64 Gb model. The 16 GB should be $149. For first time buyers who get the 16 GB model it won’t be the best experience for them. With the higher res photos that 16 GB will be gone in no time. That’s without music and very few apps.

I think it’s a poor choice for Apple I don’t mind what it costs for the 64 GB models I just think 16 is a bad entry level with the high res display and photos. App size and photo size will increase and the 16 GB will be gone in no time. So Apple will be selling iCloud storage to many users. Even more reason the free tier should increase to 10GB.

From a strategic pricing point, 16 and 64 makes a lot of sense. The 16 is there so able can offer a low “starting at” price… However my suspicion is that they don’t really want to sell this version. People will likely pay up go make the jump to 64 (which is 4x the storage!). The 64 means much higher margins for Apple.
Had they offered a 32, the would have had to either increase the entry price (not good) OR they would sell a lot of 32s (“good enough”).. Losing upsell to 64.
So I fully understand what Apple is doing from a strategic point of view.
