Mockup video gives a sense of the size of the long-rumored iPad Pro

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkzt_nl-7ok]

Following last week’s claimed leaked schematics for the long-rumored larger iPad, in which the screen size was shown as 12.2-inches, a YouTube channel has put together a mockup video putting the size into context.

The video by tech channel Canoopsy shows the iPad Pro mockup compared in size to everything from the iPhone 5 through to the iPad Air 2 – then places it against a 13-inch MacBook Pro, showing that it is almost exactly the same height and just a little less wide.

The idea of a 12.2-inch display was first posted by MacOtakara, which also suggested a 7mm thickness. Most previous rumors had pegged the screen size at a slightly larger 12.9 inches. Mac Fan claimed that the device will have four speakers, to ensure stereo sound in both horizontal and vertical formats.

KGI recently suggested that the iPad Pro will be launched in Q2 of next year.

Way to big! If it doesn’t run os x I don’t see the point of it. Surface pro 3 and apple’s own Mac line makes more sense than this.

Yeah with you. I think it would have to run OSX

I think running OSx would make it more of a keyboard-less laptop instead of an iPad. Everyone that currently has and uses an IPad but wants a bigger one would be screwed if it runs OsX. The simplicity and ease of just clicking on an App on a mobile device would go away

Why can’t this iPad be a convertible? Like surface pro 3?

Why can’t it be a surface 3 and a MacBook Air?

Well, since it has been said that the new a series processors can run “desktop class” applications, and some have said that the current applications have yet to take full use of the chip’s potential, maybe Apple has decided to let her rip. Creating a showcase for all a modern A series processor can do.

Let’s remember that when the iPad was first released, it was created to run based on the limitations of the day’s tech. There could not be the Surface we have now at the time. Maybe Apple is betting on an advanced iPad with an advanced processor to take on all the cheap Android tabs with far superior capabilities?

        I dunno?

That would be the ultimate aio. Being able to run iOS, os x, windows, and android.

  2. Remember when alpha version of Yosemite has control center if you swipe left. Possible that it is to test for such screen-size devices.

That is something that excites me, if it’s trie that OS x will make it into ipad. I think the quick gestures will make it a great experience

Since the rumor mill started talking about an iPad Pro and new 12″ Macbook Air I’ve always wondered if we’re talking about the same machine. With the Surface Pro 3 in mind, a new Macbook Air with detachable keyboard and hybrid Mac OS X would be very appealing running a high-end A9 processor and extended battery life.

Seeming more likely since the screen size of the IPad Pro went from 12.9″ to 12.2″. With Intel totally botching Broadwell

        Wish could edit posts!
With Intel totally botching Broadwells release its not unomcievable for Apple to release a MacBook Air with an arm chip.

Will all the MacBook Air have arm chips and also be a tablet, it’s hard to say at this point.

I think it’s getting more likely, since Apple needs to look at having its own chips in its laptops and desktops.

A larger iPad is all about content creation. While the 9.7 display of the current full size iPads strikes a nice balance between portability and screen real estate the iPad pro would likely be popular for those who are doing digital content creation.

Music and video production apps would have no problem filling the extra pixels. Drawing apps would provide more canvas.

This size would also create opportunities for iPads as kiosks and other type of control surfaces. Lots of avenues for a larger iPad and the larger size hopefully means faster processor and more RAM can be utilized.

I am sticking with my ancient iPad 3 to wait for this beauty and it can not come soon enough. I print far less hard copy documents since Retina iPad but with this size and beautiful super retina it will replace paper for me completely.

Hey hey hey! What about if Apple, with this big-a$$ beastie, sees Microsoft’s double and raises it one further with a trifecta of iOS / OSX / Boot Camp?

That would be the perfect riposte to all the snarky attack ads of the Surface Pro, with an IBM Watson enhanced Siri running rings round Cortana as well!

Then again, I’ve been drinking some pretty powerful and sweet coffee… never mind.
