Latest 4K drone video of Apple Campus 2 posted, roof now started

The latest 4K flyover video showing construction progress on Apple’s Campus 2 has just arrived in our inbox. Thanks to our good friend MyithZ, we see that the full internal structure has now been started including all the way to the roof in one part of the video.

The full drone flyover is available in full 4K video below:

This latest drone flyover follows Apple’s latest official aerial image of the site posted to the City of Cupertino’s website late last month. Apple also recently provided an authorized ‘sneak peak’ of the construction site, while CEO Tim Cook shared an image of 2,400 glass panels for the future headquarters being produced at Augsburg during a recent visit.

We’ve been tracking the progress in our Apple Campus 2 project timeline with a comprehensive overview of the progress including lots of aerial videos filmed by flying drones.

Apple’s current general project schedule shows it plans to complete earthwork on the project by Q2 this year, while building construction is scheduled to continue until the end of 2016. Once complete, Apple expects to move in around 12,000 of its employees on the 176-acre site located just blocks from its current Cupertino headquarters.

That must be Jonny Ive’s wing. He demanded it be finished ahead of schedule.

Wauw – you mean like…their gonna put a roof on the building. Wauw :-D

That was LAME. Far worse than even the mediocre work we’ve seen so far (if this is the same person that has been taking these videos).

I suppose the person has been “told off” about the filming given that the drone now launches from a block away and never even enters the airspace over the site or gets any closer than hundreds of yards away?

    • myithz - 9 years ago

Thanks for enjoying my mediocre work, I’m not a professional by any means… just a hobbyist. No… I have not been “told off” by anyone, nor have I ever really flown over the site. There are guys working there 7 days a week and I stay around the perimeter for safety reasons. If I go on a day when nobody is working… maybe I’ll fly over the top.

I didn’t mean to be personal or insulting, it’s just that you could easily get far better results with a still camera and a long lens. Most of your videos don’t actually show anything worthwhile because you can’t get close enough. A satellite picture taken once a day from space would have the same amount of information.

If it makes you feel better, the stuff Apple has been releasing is definitely the worst. Your work is probably appreciated by many simply for that reason. But while your video is probably the best that’s out there, it’s still lacking in any real interest or detail IMO.

I enjoy watching these videos. It conveys that work is being done and progress is being made. Near the very end of the construction you can set up a time lapse of start to finish. These videos seem fine to me and I’m not sure what a professional would do to make them better. If you didn’t take these videos we wouldn’t be able to see anything that was being done. Thanks for taking the time and effort. I’ve come to expect to see these videos on a regular basis until completion of the headquarters.

Great job on the video, I’m sure it’s much appreciated by many here, myself included! I get goose bumps every time I watch one of these and see the site coming together! Hope they do public tours of the place when it’s done, cause I want to see it!

Don’t let a**holes get to you. That footage is excellent, especially for a hobbyist. What kind of hexacopter and video cam are you using? And can I come with next time you go? :-)

      • Myithz – fair play to you for not reacting because frankly what Gazoo Bee said IS rude.

How the hell can he get “better results with a still camera and a long lens” without being suspended on a crane a couple of hundred feet in the air or flying overhead in a helicopter? The only way he can get shots like this is using a drone.

And as for it lacking in any real interest or detail…. what exactly would you like it to show? Tim Cook having a tour? Mr Ive sitting on the pan? The description says describes the video perfectly. If you don’t like anything like that you don’t need to watch it.

Going to agree with Edison for once – keep them coming, some people do appreciate them.

      • AeronPeryton - 9 years ago

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Gazoo Bee stripping the gearbox trying to get it in reverse. He didn’t “mean to be personal or insulting”… but he was. :P

Do please continue. Apple’s updates are much fewer and always delayed by a length of time. Please continue providing these videos and please don’t do anything to get yourself banned from the airspace (or shot down). If you gotta switch to telephoto, so be it.

Isn’t it just great when someone tries to achieve something, they get brought down.

He was trying to act within the law, provide something of interest to others, and frankly even if you don’t like it, he tried.

The negative nellies of course usually try nothing.

Kudos to you for your vids, ignore the nellies, keep on trying to make the world a more exciting place!

That’s how you achieve in life. So dont listen to Gazoo, he was meaning to be insulting, look how he started his comments, the site should delete them.

Thanks Dave. Every party has a pooper, we’ve found this one. I do my best to ignore them as I’m just a hobbyist and I do these videos for Apple fans, not a portfolio. I’ve taught myself everything I know about video and video editing, never taken a class of any sort… to me, it’s just pure fun and I seem to have grown quite the fan base out of these. I like to keep my “fans” wanting more, so I do what I can. Thanks for your support.

The only thing lame is your post. Your prize is an Watch achievement badge. I know how much you love those. :-D

You may not have meant to come off as insulting, but others sure see it that way. It really takes a lot to insult me. Like I mentioned before, I’m just a “hobbyist” and a fan of Apple. The only reason I started doing these monthly updates was to see over that 30ft high green wall. Now I have MANY YouTube fans who look forward to each month’s progress. I did not go to school for videography or digital media in any way. I am, however, an engineering technician at a Bay Area company (not one that would benefit in any way by these videos, and like I said… it’s just my hobby). If you think you can get “just as good a shot with a still camera and a telephoto lens, then you should do it. Don’t put others down for just trying to help the public see what they want to see. I stay away from the center for safety reasons. I’ve even gone so far as to email Tim Cook himself to ensure him I’m just a hobbyist and just doing these for fun. I wanted to give him the opportunity to either ask me me stop (if he doesn’t want these videos up each month… as he might not), or better yet… maybe honesty will help me get a “pass” to be able to launch from the center one day. I do plan on making a time lapse of sorts when this project is completed. But to be totally frank with you… the first video edit I EVER did… was less than six months ago, I’m completely self taught. I’ve never claimed to be a professional, but it seems the majority of the public enjoys my videos. Every party has a pooper… In this month’s video, I’m sorry but that pooper is you. I was in a horrific bike accident a few years ago and needed to find a new hobby to help keep my mind off the pain… and I’ve always been an avid R/C car and helicopter man, so I stepped it up a notch. Putting others down for their work is rude in my book, especially if YOU aren’t out there spending YOUR free time making videos for OTHER PEOPLE to enjoy. I’ll be looking forward to your “spy” photos on this page next month when the April video gets posted. Also… you shouldn’t “assume” things, you never know the whole story unless you ask. I’ve always launched from a block or so away, my “multirotor” can fly up to two miles away without loss of video or control, can your camera do that? Cheers.

–MyithZ– (That’s “My… It Hertz”) (yes, it should be a capital Z, but I like to throw people off)

He did get fairly close to that red crane and the perspective is awesome.. LOVE IT.. I really enjoy the monthly updates. THANKS

    • myithz - 9 years ago

Thanks Mark… I do what I can whilst still staying at a safe distance… just in case. I am flying a 685mm sawblade around. I appreciate your support.

  5. Torrey Huerta - 9 years ago

Not bad, thanks for sharing the video with us. And to the guy who said this was “LAME”….I look forward to seeing your video next week.

    • myithz - 9 years ago

I’m awaiting that person’s “spy photos” myself. Now that it looks like the major portion of the foundation is laid, construction might speed up. which means I might have to visit more than once a month to keep the fans updated. Which is my ONLY reason I do these… for the Apple fans out there! Thanks for your support.

  6. @myithz – I love your videos and look forward to them. For what it’s worth, I am privvy to sophisticated drone photos – taken directly above the site on a daily basis.
While those photos show incredible detail of the progress, they lack creativity and perspective.
You are filling a niche. Keep up the good work.
