Every Apple Watch app announced today (including more that Apple did not show onstage)

Apple-Watch-01

Apple showed off a wide range of Apple Watch apps today. Kevin Lynch took to the stage to show off many examples Here’s every app that Apple demoed from its developer ecosystem. Apple has also posted information about some of the apps under development on its microsite.

Apple highlighted apps that span a large range of use cases, from unlocking your garage door, to unlocking your hotel, to tracking your health and keeping up with social media.

Obviously, there were a lot more apps installed on Lynch’s demo unit that Apple did not explicitly show on stage. These are shown on Apple’s ‘Apple Watch App Store‘ website, and are as follows:

You can see screenshots for all of the Watch apps on Apple’s published list. Downloading the app from the iPhone App Store will automatically add the app to your Apple Watch, which ships on April 24, when you get it.

  1. The Apple Edition 42mm Yellow Gold with Black Sport Band costs £9500.

The Apple Edition 42mm Yellow Gold with Black Classic Buckle costs £12000.

    That’s £2500 for a strap….

Considering I’ve seen individual links for a gold watch band go for upwards of $400… 2500 is definitely a premium, but not nearly as much as it seems given their target market.

      • This is for a leather strap with a gold buckle…..

@AuntyTroll – You are correct. My point was not that a leather band with a buckle could not be made cheaper. My point was that in the watch world, a $3500 strap is not looked at as outrageous.

Apple is getting themselves in a bit of a spot here because up to this point, they’ve been a consumer electronics company. Their customer has been trained to expect certain price points and for any product to be relatively attainable and provide some additional tangible value for the additional cost.

Enter Watch Edition. It’s a product that I’d bet 99.5% of Apple customers view as outrageous and pointless and will lambast them (as people are doing here) while those people who are apt to spend $15,000 on this sort of watch don’t view $3,500 for a well made watch accessory as being unnecessarily extravagant.

The most ridiculous thing I saw when looking through the product pages was that they’re offering 3 years of AppleCare+ on a $17,000 watch. The watches I have experience with in that price category are expected to continue functioning and be reasonably repairable for 20+ years, and will actually appreciate in value. MAYBE the Watch Edition will fall in to this category – but considering the essentially disposable state of consumer electronics right now, I fully expect that 3 years from now, we’ll have 2-3 day battery life, faster processing, better displays, etc. available, and the v1 Edition version will appreciate solely as a collectible and not on it’s own right as a fine piece of jewelry.
