Early iOS 10 and OS X 10.12 ‘Fuji’ internal testing ramps up ahead of 2016 launches

ios10

A few months following the launches of both iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan, Apple has shifted a large portion of its software engineering resources over to development of the upcoming iOS 10 and OS X 10.12. While iOS 9.2 and OS X 10.11.2 remain under development, 2016’s mobile and desktop Apple operating systems are now moving forward at full speed, sources indicate.

As indicated by checks of our own Google Analytics data, testing of both 2016 Apple operating systems has picked up significantly in recent weeks, after a slow start between September and October. Sources indicate that the internal codename of the new Mac operating system is “Fuji,” which follows last year’s “Gala” release. Stay tuned for details in the future about both of the new operating systems.

Here’s hoping they’ll speed up the UI for both platforms; do more Metal rendering for the system UI, decrease the animation timers, and feel the interface feel lighter. Windows 10’s UI feels faster and responsive on the same hardware for me, despite all of the oddities it has.

Judging by the number and the name, nothing revolutionary to come…I think I’ve seen Mount Fuji somewhere…

Judging by the number or the codenames never returned anything useful. Even if Apple were to work on a revolutionary update, they wouldn’t leak it by changing the codename/number scheme, it’d remain consistent with previous version/naming schemes and they’d change it at the WWDC.

So revolutionary products have cryptic internal labels?

When will Apple make the move to OS XI or just change the name to macOS or some other variation? This is getting ridiculous.

    • cubsnlinux - 8 years ago

I don’t think it will change in the near future. “OS X” is a lot bigger than a mere version label and I am not sure if Apple upsets that cart any soon.

You’re the one that’s being ridiculous on being so concerned about the version name. Why does it mater? OS XI or macOS does not mean anything more than what it does now.

I don’t understand why but Windows on my Mac always requires much less ram to run smoothly than Mac os. Onac ps i always have just 11gb out of 16 free without doing a thing. Windows uses like 2gb of ram without having any apps open… I really feel Apple should do something about the incredible amount of ram their os needs.

Is your OS (Win and Mac) installed on SSD?

      • Pravin Ramana - 8 years ago

Windows needs 1 of RAM to function properly, though Windows 8(.1) seems a bit faster.

Judging things based on free memory available does not tell you anything. I rather have an OS that intelligently use whatever amount of RAM it needs and release them for apps when necessary. Plus, OS X now has memory compression too. I do give credit to Microsoft of their excellent job in making Windows 8 and 10 to be quite friendly to lower end machines (compared to Vista).

Please add dark mode. The most obviously needed thing in iOS is dark mode. I’m not talking dark headers either. It needs to look like the Movies and TV shows panes in iTunes.app. At night in the dark open iTunes at 25% brightness, then switch between the movies pane and music pane and tell me there shouldn’t be an option in control center to switch to dark mode, wherein the entire OS would gain a dark grayish look, akin to the movies pane in iTunes.

Other than that there will obviously be more 3D Touch features.

I casually wonder whether so-called Fuji will bring anything of note to make it worth installing. Presently stalled on 10.9.5 I do not see anything worthwhile has been done with Mac OS for the last two years.

I thing ios add new feature like Pre-install Apps Handling- Apple is integrated with numerous pre-installed apps. While it is a good thing, the negative point is Apple provides no option to delete such apps. http://ios10news.com/

I hope for a completely new interchange. Enough of this stupid El Craptain.
