Apple updates Apple TV to version 5.0.1 9B206f

Apple just released the latest software update for both the second-generation and third-generation of the Apple TV, version 5.0.1 (9B206f). As of now, we are not sure if there is anything in this update past bug fixes, but we will be sure to let you know the moment we find something (update below).

You can find the download links for your respective version below, or you can just hit the update version on your Apple TV—whatever works best. As always, you can let us know if you find anything at tips@9to5mac.com.

Update: Apple detailed the software update on its website and said 5.0.1 brings fixes to AirPlay, Netflix, Home Sharing, and more. It also includes HD previews for movies and TV shows on the iTunes Store.

Along with the third-generation of the Apple TV that released in March, Apple also shipped its new software for the set-top box: version 5.0. The new version brought a huge user-interface update to the main page, which has seen a mixed reaction from users. A former Apple TV engineer said it was a design “Steve Jobs threw away five years ago.” Today’s update is the first for the new set-top box, and it should bring a ton of fixes for any issues those of you may have experienced.

The third-generation Apple TV features 1080p playback powered by a custom dual core-based A5 processor. But as we found last week, the 720p version of the Apple TV may be selling more frequently than the 1080p version.

As always, if you are jailbroken, you may want to stay away from this update.
