Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Heroes’ freemium iOS app goes live, with scary in-app purchases

Activision has officially launched Call of Duty: Heroes, its 3D combat strategy game for the iPhone and iPad. Unlike the companion app for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launched earlier this month, this latest offering is a full standalone game like Strike Team.

While the basic game is free to play, you might want to take note of the cost of the optional in-app purchases before you get hooked: these range from $9.99 to a frightening $99.99 …

The game is a Clash of the Clans style strategy game, but lets you take control of familiar heroes from Call of Duty console games, including those from Modern Warfare and Black Ops II.

Experience the excitement of Call of Duty® like never before. Command an army of legendary heroes, elite soldiers, and devastating drones straight from the Call of Duty franchise in this 3D combat strategy game. Customize your base and train elite forces to dominate your enemies in fierce battles featuring fully controllable heroes and epic Killstreaks, like the first-person chopper gunner.

Take command of a small outpost and build it up into an impenetrable base. Then go on the offensive, launching attacks against your enemies. Take direct control of heroes such as Price, Soap, and Harper, wreaking havoc with game-changing Killstreaks. Create deadly alliances with your friends, competing for in-game rewards.

The game is available for download on iTunes.

  1. Do they ever release numbers on those in-app purchases? I wonder how many people make such ridiculous purchases…

It would certainly be interesting to know how many people fork out $100 …

Supercell, the makers of Clash Of Clans, gross’s 5 million per day from IAP.

        *grosses

      • yeah but I am guessing out of that 5 million, probably 4.5mil at least is from under $5 purchases… or am I grossly underestimating how many people fork out more than $5 for in game purchases?

I’ve admittedly been frustrated enough to spend $10 on League of War in app purchases. Honestly though, I am not rich by any means but a trip to starbucks costs nearly as much. I don’t buy them all the time but every once in a while.

wont allow to download the game.

Looks like they’ve pulled it. One second it’s there, then I cannot download it. Refreshed the ‘Apps by Activision Publishing, Inc.’ page and Heroes no more.

can’t see it in the US.
