Apple debuts new iPhone TV spots featuring Continuity functions and Vainglory gameplay

Apple premiered two new TV ads for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus tonight featuring the duo of Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. The first of the two, “Reservations,” shows off iOS 8’s new Continuity features that allow users to place phone calls from any iCloud-connected device.

In the ad, Timberlake uses a Mac and iPad to call Fallon’s iPhone, while Fallon answers the calls in a phony French accent.

In the second ad, “Gamers,” (below), the pair plays of iPhone-based MOBO Vainglory and engage is some lingo-filled trash talk. Vainglory that was originally demonstrated during Apple’s iPhone 6 announcement and appeared on the App Store earlier this week.

Kind of goofy for a feature as potentially useful as continuity. Apple needs present the more serious aspects of continuity as well as the fun aspects. Continuity has the potential of presenting an Apple ecosystem as a gestalt rather than a conglomeration of mutually compatible devices, something Apple has failed to advertise over the years.

For all the things you can do with Continuity, I’m not sure that was a great example. And on top of that, both commercials seemed pretty laid back (immature even).

Immature and followers is the demographic.

Do you know any great thinkers who play computer games?

Thanks to continuity I can leave my iPhone in my room on the charge cable and just keep my Macbook out, and answer/respond from there. No need to drag around two different devices around the house. If I’m cooking, I can quickly dry off my hand and speak more easily from my laptop as well; sound better than on speakerphone.

Well, I love continuity. Everytime I charge my 6 Plus in my room ’cause it takes 4 hours to charge it, I use my iPad for when I need to text or call someone who doesn’t have an iPhone.

Yep, no more racing to my charging point when the phone rings; pick the call up at my MacBook when I’m sitting at my desk, or on the sofa (or wherever) on my iPad elsewhere around the house, and hands-free as well!

I wonder how many people actually realize that it’s Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake doing the voice overs for these? Props to Apple though for getting 2 of the biggest names in entertainment!

Ugh… reminds me of when Microsoft hired Seinfeld to do ads. Not funny.

Interesting how many people mention charging their devices.
It’s too bad you have to charge your iPhone so much.
As I type this, I’m on my second full day of battery life.

I can go extra days without charging, question is why would i ever want to? Im normally around 60% at the end of the day, it would be foolish to not charge at night just because i could go without..

Love my 6+, I’ll say that first. These two ads are playful but the level of confrontation between Fallon and Timberlake turns me off more than anything. Time to start a different kind of campaign.
