In addition to new seeds for its mobile platforms, Apple has released the second Developer Preview of the upcoming OS X El Capitan for Macs. The update is available via Software Update in the Mac App Store. Similarly to iOS 9, El Capitan brings many under-the-hood enhancements in addition to new features like a split-screen mode for core applications, a new Notes app, and an enhanced Mission Control view. New changes and fixes in the second preview have already been discovered and are included in updates below. El Capitan will ship to all users in the fall following a public beta release in July.

lightning fast!
new thing: OS X now automatically changes the contrast of the entire display depending on ambient light to make it easier to see in direct sunlight (when outside, putting my hand on the camera lens results in a sudden increase in contrast)
This is a very very old feature. Maybe you’ve only just got a monitor that supports it? (my 2011 cinema display supports it for example)
No I think he is right, see below. TL;DR hold your phone flash up to the webcam and pull it away. Contrast now visibly changes before the backlight dims.
Do you mean contrast or brightness? Because the backlight brightness is what’s adjusted on display in ambient light conditions, not the contrast. I doubt they would do anything with contrast…
No he’s right, in a dark room hold your phone flash up to the webcam and watch as your screen increases in backlight brightness (old feature) as well as a lowered contrast (new) that sort of also makes the screen appear brighter, as soon as you pull the phone away the contrast will change before the backlight dims down.
That wallpaper is not new, it was released with Yosemite last year.
Well, Yes, But the angles of Yosemite National Park is not the same.
You are just false. The picture of Half Dome from last year was taken earlier in the day and from a more direct angle. This wallpaper was not even an alternate wallpaper. I can see your confusion, though :).
Server beta 2 is also added and no more crashes
Still can’t sync my Notes, that appear well on my iPhone iOS 9 b2 btw… Don’t know what to do (I’ve already disabled / enabled Notes in iCloud settings…)
Anyone getting FaceTime zooming in on the other person on FaceTime with this beta? Maybe it was just a bad connection on mine I’m not sure
Xcode 6.3.2 doesn’t open on El Capitan beta 2 update
Same here :(
Same here :((
run
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode /dev/null &
in terminal to open the Xcode 6.3.2 in El Capitan beta 2
XCode 6.x.x should not be run with OS X 10.11 El Capitan as it does not contain the 10.11 SDK. You will need to wait for or otherwise obtain XCode 7.
I was wondering if anyone experienced issues with iCloud on beta 1, in regards to updating the password for an apple ID within system preferences? If so, did they fix it?
Yes and yes!
YES!!! Doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore :)
The app Caffeine doesn’t appear to work in this beta
@neilq5 Do you have a Mac that didn’t have both a Computer Sleep and Display Sleep option in System Preferences > Energy Saver in 10.10? Was wondering if Apple “fixed” that BS in 10.11. (For instance, 5K iMacs don’t have both, so you can’t set two different times…which is a NIGHTMARE for Servers and Remote Access.) I filed a bug that was marked as a Dupe. I have been unable to determine if pmset can be called from the command line (mostly because the 5K I’m trying to hit is in Taiwan and 12hours out of phase with me. Grrrrrrr.)
Just checked and I only have a Display Sleep option, which I think was the same as Yosemite.
There is a checkbox that says “Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off” not sure if that is new or not
Check out Amphetamine on the App Store. It’s a modern version of Caffeine, and runs well on El Capitan.
I have the same issue as well.
did anyone else get an error about not being able to connect to a server after installing the new beta?
Yeah, the same problem
Anyone noticed Norton Security is not working properly? It got disables and showed “At Risk” and will block your internet connection. Well, to be precise, sometimes it will block safari and chrome, sometimes only safari.
By blocking, I mean you can’t open web pages.
Sadly TrimForce is still not operational.

Bit of a shame.
Thankfully Chameleon SSD Optimiser did work.
Of course it won’t work, it’s attempting to write to a directory protected by Rootless. Disable Rootless and it’ll work fine.
Has mail been fixed so that i can send emails from my icloud alias?
wait? That was a bug? My mail app was doing aliases just fine… Or am I missing something ?
My mail app with exchange also is no longer working with aliases. I am using the public beta release.
Just say “No” to chep, needless so-called updates. Viva la Mac OS 10.9!
