TaiG has released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 8.3 – but Cydia Substrate isn’t yet working, meaning that many third-party add-ons won’t run. MS Tweaks likewise don’t work at present.
As people still seem confused: to fix Substrate on iOS 8.3, @taig_jailbreak (not me) will update the jailbreak kernel patch (not Substrate).
— Jay Freeman (saurik) (@saurik) June 23, 2015
The release notes suggest that the jailbreak installation may take several attempts.
If jailbreak failed, turn off WIFI and try again. If failed again, please use TaiG Pro to restore and try to jailbreak again.
If you’re not yet running iOS 8.3, TaiG Pro allows you to perform the upgrade as part of the data backup process …
At present, the jailbreak requires a Windows PC. You can download the jailbreak from the TaiG website, and find the tutorial here.
If you want to open up your watch as well as your phone, three well-known developers recently managed to hack the Apple Watch to run truly native apps on the device.

As always, jailbreaking is at your own risk and is something Apple frowns upon

Tempting … but i think i’ll keep my iPhone secure.
If you think your iPhone is secure, you’re kidding yourself.
Well, it doesn’t get any securer by giving some (to me unknown) hackers from china root access… (No offense!)
Actually it does. Since you have root access, you can change the root password from alpine to whatever you want. You can also expressly block SHSH requests.
I always changed root password afterwards (back in the jailbreak days), but as long as i don’t know what files the jailbreak modifies during the initial process (and i don’t), its a pure question of trusting the team (TaiG in this case). So, since this jailbreak isn’t widely believed or confirmed to be “safe” by credible individuals of the Jailbreak community (like Saurik), i wouldn’t install it… (a propos TaiG: http://9to5mac.com/2013/12/22/ios-7-jailbreak-installs-pirate-app-store-if-your-device-language-is-chinese/)
I understand your point. That was an old issue and TaiG removed that automatic install. Even still, I totally understand your point. It was easier to trust the community when i0nic and others were transparent about the installs. These days it’s released without much explanation. I don’t even think I’ll be doing this one – or any other for that matter. The JB tweaks that I loved are almost all included in the new iOS updates.
Good discussion!
Yeah, most of the tweaks have moved into iOS. And since my last 2 iPhones have been factory unlocked, there wasn’t even a need to jailbreak for that reason anymore … to be honest … the only thing i’d jailbreak for would be to run a decent NES emulator with MFI Joypad support. :) But this isn’t really something i can’t live without … :)
Agreed, good Discussion ;)
True, the emulator was cool. I got lucky and downloaded Floppy Cloud when it was in the App Store so I’ve got a native iPhone app approved that has a secret emulator built in. I still miss NoSlowAnimations – it sped up transitions to make the phone snappier, and iFile since I could modify the keyboard to hide my password in it.
Have a good one!
Wow a conversation that was mature, I’m so surprised i usually read comments just for the fighting and arguing.
It can be done! :)
So with the timing of 8.4 coming in 1 week, I think it’s safe to say that 8.4 fixes this jailbreak.
If anything its the exact opposite. If 8.4 is truly only one week away.. there is no way Apple has had to time research/fix/verify/test the security hole properly and patch it before it is publicly released. Chances are it will not be fixed until something like 8.4.2 or even 8.5 comes along.
People never think about it.. but the JB community has been an incredible R&D resource for Apple. Many of the features & additions that have came to iOS over the years were ideas that first manifested with the JB community. From there Apple was able to gauge interest, real world usage and then create their own 1st party copy of that feature into later versions of iOS. So its not like Apple is exactly in a rush to patch these JB holes as quickly as absolutely possible.
UM, no. Other way around. It’s being released now because it’s too late for Apple to provide a patch for 8.4.
I was curious about this as well. If it also works in 8.4, why didn’t they state that it works in the betas? I’m not sure either way. I can see both sides of the argument. 1- It’s patched in 8.4 so why wait to release it. 2- They didn’t patch it in 8.4b4, so it’s most likely ok to release early.
But if it’s in the betas, why wouldn’t they say that? Especially as each beta came out. They used to do that.
If Cydia Substrate is not yet working, is there any point to jailbreak?
Running Kodi
I’m sorry, but what is Kodi? Can you help us?
Kodi is what was fomely known as xbmc and its just a media center
Keeps saying ” Apple driver not found. Please download and install itunes”
you need to downgrade itunes to 12.0.1
It has always made me laugh that you have to use a windows PC to do the jailbreak on a Apple iPhone. I have never understood this concept.
Because Macs suck?
Why do you use iOS if you don’t like Mac OS? They are almost the same except for the fact that Mac OS is open and doesn’t need a jailbreak to have root acces.
lol you suck
The same reason you need internet explorer to download chrome or firefox, lol
You’re going to code on either a Mac or PC. It’s just a crap shoot. The earlier JB’s were always Mac first, then PC if I remember correctly. Seeing as how MS still has the lion’s share of the PC market, you’re far more likely to see a JB come off a Windows machine than a Mac.
It is tempting… but I will wait and see if iOS 9 (public beta) fixes the lag and space issues on the iPhone 5S.
some apps i.e. Settings, Snapchat, and Ebay, so far. do not open. just crash after JB 8.3. Anyone with the same issue?
snapchat and settings open fine for me
Yay! Losing F.lux and SwipeSelection just to pair my Apple Watch has resulted in daily frustration. Funny, I used to care about pirated apps, I don’t anymore, not one pirated app it’s too big a hassle to update them. ThetherMe, WiCarrier and KillBackground tweaks are nice tweaks too, but those first too tweaks are 99% of why I jailbreak.
Great news. Hack and crack – take control back.
Can anyone tell me the relevance of jailbreaking right now because Cydia substrate isn’t working…
There’s always a group that will JB as soon as it’s available. I used to be one of them. Early adopters are necessary to flush out any issues. And they’re some of the most committed to a stable JB release for the masses.
I should also say that JB’ing now just gets your phone ready for the eventual update from Saurik with the new substrates.
I’m confused. I’ve just installed the new Jailbreak on 8.3 and I see that many tweaks do not work as explained here. Does this mean that I’ll have to Jailbreak again once the mobile substrate gets fixed? Or would that be something I can just update through Cydia once the fix gets released? I apologize for how clueless this question might be. I don’t know anything about software development.
Many tweaks won’t be available yet. Each developer will need to update their tweaks to make sure they work in the new iOS and mobile substrate. If not, they crash. I’m sure someone, somewhere is building a webpage of tweaks that are compatible.
Are you new to the JB experience? This is nothing new and the list will grow every week. As for needing to JB again, I’m not sure how this one was built. You may need to, or it may be an update in the Cydia app that will update the MS.
Thank you for the quick reply, Emailjimmyw. I guess I’ll be playing the waiting game, then. I’m quite familiar with the process of Jailbreaking, but it’s only very recently that I’ve been actively using its nifty benefits. The first time I Jailbroke was on an iPhone 3g, but there was very little I could do with that old device. I later on Jailbroke my iPhone 5 that was running IOS 8.2 beta 2. I haven’t updated until now to 8.3 since a new Jailbreak finally came out for that. I’m hoping it was a good idea to install a later IOS, at least tor any new bug fixes that might have come with it.
por onde eu configuro os tweaks no 8.3 ?
Hello guys, can someone tell me is there a chance to get cydia as update if I will JB my device? I just don’t want to JB my iphone with PC or something like that again. Sorry for my English, I am Russian. :(
Hey John. If you JB your device, Cydia will be included automatically. No need to wait for an update. It looks like there is a new version of the JB tool. I believe TaiG needs to update the mobile substrate so it runs perfectly. You may want to wait for that.
Either way, the JB will most likely ask you to update it when the new substrate is released.
I’m not going to use this JB, but many people are having luck with it.
someone plz help i have downloaded cydia and it was just working 1 hour ago and now whenever i try to open cydia it crashes immediately and can no longer get tweaks
It would be awesome if we could get jailbreaks for Mac like anytime at all ever anymore. I keep looking and hoping with each jailbreak and no luck.
stuck on ‘checking jailbreak environment
When apps are downloaded and intalled with AppCake, they dont open but force closes to home screen.
