Ahead of iPhone 6S, Gazelle debuts best price guarantee for iPhone 5s / 6 / 6 Plus trade-ins

With the official announcement of Apple’s iPhone 6S just around the corner, Gazelle today announced limited-time promotional trade-in pricing for the iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus, guaranteeing that Gazelle’s cash offer will “beat the trade-in credit offered by a customer’s wireless carrier or Apple.” The promotion applies to U.S. carriers AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as Apple’s trade-in program.

Gazelle notes that its Best Price Guarantee pays out in cash rather than credit, one of the strings often attached to carrier and Apple trade-in programs, and covers all colors and capacities of the aforementioned three iPhone models. Notably, the company says that it will beat any better offer customers find at Apple or their carrier through September 9th.

As noted in our guide to trading in your iPhone to buy a new iPhone 6S, Gazelle’s pricing system does an atypically good job of considering factors such as excellent device condition and factory/carrier unlocked status during trade-ins. The promotional pricing runs from today through September 9th, the day of Apple’s event.

I have a Verizon iPhone 6 on the Edge plan. Owe $300. Gazelle wants to give me $400. Done. Locked in.

Funny how this best price offer is lower than what I was quoted by them last week. What a gimmick.

But what was the ship date? When I did it they offered $406 for my 64gb iPhone 6 and I don’t have to send it in till October 2.

The challenge here is discussed in the terms and conditions:

“If you have a better price advertised by your carrier, please submit proof to customercare@gazelle.com. You should also provide your Gazelle transaction ID. You must have already created an order with Gazelle before we can adjust it to the advertised price you’re providing. We’ll need your iPhone model and a copy of the advertised price from your carrier. We must have proof of a higher advertised price from your carrier. We may also need additional information to verify pricing.”

In other words, if you create an order with Gazelle now and either your carrier or Apple offers a better trade-in price between now and event day, Gazelle will give you the difference (plus $1 to beat it) in cash rather than credit. So the number you are quoted on Gazelle’s web site is a floor, not a ceiling, for your trade-in value.

The reason I posted my trade-in article ahead of this week was a simple fact: the closer the event gets, the more people will be trading in phones (and causing drops in their prices). So the longer one waits, the lower the trade-in price is likely to be unless a carrier offers some fantastic “stick with us” promotion. So lock in now if you haven’t already.

$490 for a pristine, unlocked 128 6Plus, with all the original packaging and accessories – Not Happening for me.

I’ll list it on Swappa and easily get an additional $100. NOT $490 – $390 for that iPhone.

Nope – Nothing to see here, move along. YMMV! And – If I wanted to buy that same iPhone on their web site . . . . $789.00! That’s a $400 profit for Gazelle.

Take a running leap off a tall building!

If you’re getting a quote from Gazelle now, then you missed out on a good amount of money. The best time to get a quote was right before the Apple invitation was announced. My quote is $100 higher than what Gazelle is offering today because I locked it in two weeks ago. I don’t have to ship my old iPhone until the day after the new iPhone is probably going to be available (assuming the pre-order goes smoothly).

I have a 32gb 5s. Gazelle is offering me ~$200 verizon says they’ll give me $300. I didn’t read all the fine print but I assume that’s what gazelle will match so it looks like a nice windfall for those with last generation devices.

CellCashier.com usually has some good quotes on used iPhones. They also pay for shipping.
