Last week, Apple filed a trademark request for an updated HomeKit logo under a Delaware Corporation known as iGuide LLC. The registering representative Stephen Brown has known ties to Apple, as first noted by Conosomac.fr. This particular house-themed logo differs substantially from the logo used on Apple’s HomeKit development pages and within the iOS 9 settings panels. Here’s the current logo for comparison:
It is unclear what this new HomeKit logo will represent, but there are a few possibilities:
- A new replacement logo for the existing look
- A new icon to differentiate between developer documents and the iOS settings icons.
- The icon for the in-the-works Home app we reported on prior to the iOS 9 announcement at WWDC earlier this year.
The fact that Apple registered to trademark the new logo under a shell company seems to indicate bigger plans that the company does not want revealed (yet) under their own name.
