The Apple TV is now available to order from Apple’s online store, $149 for the 32 GB model and $199 for the 64 GB model. The first Apple TV orders will ship later this week, from October 30th.
The new fourth-generation Apple TV is first launching in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and many more … with a total of 80 launch countries. Not all countries get all the features however — only 12 of those regions are able to use voice search on the Siri Remote.
Alongside the box itself, Apple is selling a couple of accessories. You can buy a replacement Apple TV Siri Remote for $79 as well as a Remote Loop, the wrist strap, for $12.99. Bundled with the Apple TV itself is a Lightning cable to charge the remote, but you still have to buy your own HDMI cable as that is not included.
International pricing for the Apple TV varies. For the UK, the 32 GB model costs £129 and the 64 GB costs £169. In Canada, the device starts at CAD $199, maxing out at $269. The European price is 179 euros for 32 GB and 229 euros for the 64 GB model.
You can watch 9to5Mac’s hands-on with the 4th-gen Apple TV developer kit from a few weeks ago to get a feel for the new device or simply watch the beautiful new Aerial screensavers, if you are still on the fence about ordering.
The new Apple TV features a remote with a touch surface for easy navigation as well as built-in microphones to enable Siri voice searches. The box itself will include an App Store, vastly expanding the content selection over the third-generation Apple TV which is still available to buy for $69. Its also a much more powerful device in general, with an Apple A8 SoC included inside for high-performance apps and games.
If you are a developer working on something cool for the debut of tvOS and Apple TV, please get in touch with details about your upcoming launch.

Not in the UK it’s not :-(
Not in the UK site yet :-(
Same happened to me. Go onto the Apple Store app on iPhone
Just ordered mine! So happy to see it’s available here in Portugal since day 1 (still not apple watch on sale here)
On a strange note: When I go to Portuguese online Apple store, ore even to USA online Apple store and hit TV on menu bar, it appears as ‘coming soon’ not showing up ‘buy now’. What I did was hitting the 9to5Mac link provided here and change the country to PT on address bar. Thanks 9to5Mac!
The link works for me. No ‘coming soon’ signs.
Just bought my Apple TV!!! Quite possibly the last product that Steve Jobs worked on!!! Since he was describing it and the project in the Walter Isaacson biography!!! Thank You Steve!!!
Think I’ll hold off to see what can be done with this guy. I’d grab one in a heartbeat if it had VLC day one and allowed me to stream my personal library. As it stands, I don’t buy anything via iTunes so don’t see a point to it.

Yeah, I’m aware. Looking forward to VLC being released and seeing how well it works. Once it’s out I’ll pick one up.
Plex has also confirmed an app is due for the tv by end November.
Sounds like it might be out at launch:

VLC on iOS does not support the AC3 Codec anymore. Same with DTS I believe. Take a look at Infuse. This app plays everything. The version for Apple TV is already in development.
Plex will be out for it, so it will play anything.
How about the Developer kits? Will the App Store icon pop up automatically or do we need to update again? 😁
Would like to know this too… And when would this update drop? On Friday?
If you have the GM installed that should be the same version that ships with these production devices. My guess is the App Store will just ‘appear’ sometime between now and friday.
Ordered in Australia.
Prices: $269 and $349
Ouch, the value of the Australian dollar has really plummeted over the past year when compared to the US dollar. Shocking!
Oh good, Discover Cards do not support in-App Payments. So much for getting 10% back on this. Sigh (I had a bad weekend with Apple Pay at Epcot for Food & Wine, that’s a whole other story)
You probably ran into the same problem I did – Disney and Discover in Apple Pay do not work at all for some reason. I did have some success using Apple Pay at Disney after switching from Discover to another card, but about a quarter of the time I had to make sure the cashier would hit the right button in the cash register for Apple Pay to go through… and a few cashiers wouldn’t even try, telling me Apple Pay wasn’t supported (which it is).
It is things that like this that have utterly stalled ApplePay. While I have no doubt that Apple Pay and similar are the future….the future is not now. They just didn’t do this one right. They should have gone HARD after retail compatibility, using the legendary Apple power, and making sure down to the check out counter that Apple Pay works in as many places as possible.
We read weekly about xx new banks added to Apple Pay….and have not heard the name of more than 3 new retailers added as official partners since Apple Pay launch a year ago.
Despite ApplePay, most US retailers have recently or are actively changing out their 1980s-vintage mag stripe equipment to handle the “new” EMV chip cards and they clearly still don’t know what to do. Should I insert my card or swipe? Who knows. Each retailer has a different, unpredictable plan, and the people working the registers are not up to speed in terms of what their management is doing, and management’s plan wasn’t well thought out.
Add Apple Pay to the mix and the retailers brains explode.
And then add anything else, like CurrentC or AndroidPay or PayWave or GoogleWallet and it only gets more twisted and more bizarre, destroying simplicity of moving money from the customer to the merchant. Dumb.
No wonder why the card companies were willing to continue accept the fraud losses related to mag stripe for the past 20 years.
Ordered from UK store just now.
Bought mine, I am just completely scratching my head about the lack of 4K support, but my Samsung does a great job of upscaling, so maybe it’s not as much a problem as I think it could be
It is pretty obvious why they aren’t including 4K in this version. $$$.
Little in the way of 4K content,. Especially true for tv and movie content
4K TVs represent less than 2-3% of the market
Limited bandwidth in many markets
I’m scratching my head as to what you think you’d be playing if it did. All that 4k video content that’s available on iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and others I suppose. Oh wait….
Living in Japan we have a lot of 4K TVs and digital channels in 2K… so the lack of 4K also means this device is not future proof…
also for the cost you’d think theyd include a hdmi cable
Ordered from the UK store just now.
I’m not going to rush out and get one. I have a chromecast, Amazon Fire and old Apple TV,.
But I will eventually get it. Apps will be what pushes me to pull the trigger.
ok then will wait for 30th october. Read more: http://bit.ly/1WdLpvf
Anyone know what 12 countries have siri access at launch? Can’t find anything on it in any of the published articles.
Also available at MacMall (I have a thing about sales tax)
I was going to buy one but decided against it. I am heavily invested in iTunes movies and TV shows and have multiple ATV3s but the apps I use most are the ones that require cable TV authentication (such as HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, WATCHESPN, etc) so that means entering my DirecTV username and password to access most og the content within the app. My problem is I have to do this for EVERY single channel based app and it is just way too tedious. Especially doing this on 5 Apple TVs. There should be a central cable TV login place under settings that would allow me to enter my information and have auto log in on all the channel based apps.
Looks neat but as usual Apple’s pricing is a slap in the face to its loyal customers. I’ll wait for reviews and Plex then decide if it’s enough better than my existing solution.
Enjoying my Roku4…
Enjoy the massive advert that takes up half the home screen.
My Roku has sat disconnected in a cupboard since they did that. Apple TVs everywhere in my house now.
I may wait until Spring. The one app I’m really looking forward to is MLB.TV.
I live in japan and this is ¥20,000… we have a variety of choices in japan, including hdmi mini PCs that run windows — all of which are a lot cheaper…
Even PSVita TV and 3rd gen apple TV is more than half the price…
I’m not sure i can justify the price for a few apps…
If apple were to have a TV/Movie service the same as the Apple Music – then i’d sign up and buy it… until that happens the price is not tempting me
