Apple doubles external TestFlight testers to 2,000 users, beta periods to 60 days

In addition to several new software betas and new Tech Talks today, Apple has more developer news to share today. Starting today, TestFlight will now support up to 2,000 external testers for iOS and tvOS. TestFlight allows developers to easily share pre-release versions of their apps with a large group of external testers outside of their own development team.

TestFlight was previously limited to 1,000 external testers on iOS and tvOS. Internal testing is limited to 25 team members on 10 devices each. Apple also notes on its TestFlight website that beta periods now last 60 days versus 30 days before.

Since acquiring TestFlight last year, Apple has maintained TestFlight apps on iOS with support for watchOS and tvOS. Apple first announced these changes, which go live today, earlier this year at WWDC.

And finally handle duplicated testers when uploading CSV list.

It would be more helpful if they could reduce the time taken from submitting a build, to it being available for testers. It can take several days at the moment, which is an agonising process.

Even the pause between initial upload and being able to do anything with the file can be nearly 24 hours sometimes, which is just maddening.

No kidding. The iTunesConnect / TestFlight service has been a giant mess for the last couple of months, with app uploads taking ages and many times never completing at all. Developers have been talking about this all over the place. I’m really surprised 9to5 hasn’t investigated yet, it’s by far the worst I’ve seen since the App Store started.

TestFlight messed up. Apple should allow developers test app freely outside its ecosystem.
