Bloomberg this morning issued a report noting that Apple sources have reaffirmed many disparate reports on the iPhone 7. These include an iPhone 6-like design with neater antenna lines, dual cameras on the 5.5-inch model, a pressure-sensitive Home button with haptic feedback and removal of the headphone jack.
There has been much speculation about the functionality of the twin-camera setup on the larger iPhone, and the report notes that the system will offer two benefits …
It will improve overall image quality, especially in low-light, and allow greater clarity when zooming in, according to a source who has used a prototype model.
The dual cameras on the larger new iPhone will produce brighter photos with more detail, according to a person who has used a prototype version of the upcoming device. Both sensors, which each capture color differently, simultaneously take a picture, and the device produces a single, merged photograph, said the person.
The dual system sharpens photos taken in low-light environments, the person said. The combination of the merged photos from the two camera sensors also allows users to zoom while retaining more clarity, the person added.
The piece also confirms expectations that the dual-camera module is limited to the 5.5-inch model.
We reported a rumor back in April that the iPhone 7 would have a touch-sensitive Home button, with a second report in June stating that the button would offer haptic feedback along the lines of the latest Apple trackpads, and Bloomberg notes that additional sources corroborate this.
The new models will have a pressure-sensitive button that provides feedback to the user via a vibrating haptic sensation rather than a true physical click, according to the people. This mechanism is similar to that of the trackpads on the latest MacBook line. 9to5Mac reported on the home button design earlier.
Finally, and sadly least surprisingly, the report also backs the widely-reported removal of the 3.5mm headphone jacket in favor of Lightning and Bluetooth audio output, the removal making room for a second speaker.
Here’s yet another iPhone 7 mockup video from the weekend:
