Drake’s new single, God’s Plan, has broken single-day streaming music records on both Apple Music and Spotify with 14 million plays and 4.3 million plays respectively. The news was confirmed by Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in a tweet.
The hip-hop artist has been heavily promoted by Apple Music itself, and has broken the record several times before on the platform. As Billboard notes, Drake has held the number one spot for most streamed artist for all of 2015 and 2016, and fell down to the number two spot when Ed Sheeran joined the game in 2017. “God’s Plan” was released last Friday night.
Drake celebrated his accomplishment by posting a photo on Instagram featuring NBA star LeBron James, which also broke his own record by joining the 30,000-point club.
