Instagram has always resisted the idea of a “Regram” button, but the company appears to be reversing its course, at least in the case of Stories. According to TechCrunch, Instagram is testing a feature that would allow users to share another user’s post directly to their own Instagram Story…

The feature is currently being tested with a small percentage of users and Instagram has confirmed that it is testing the feature. “We’re always testing ways to make it easier to share any moment with friends on Instagram,” the company told TechCrunch. While the company has been rumored to be testing a “Regram” button, nothing has officially materialized there.
As you can see in the video below, this resharing feature is accessible via the existing share menu that allows you to share a post via direct message to other users. At the top of that menu, however, there’s a new “Add post to your story” option.
When you add a user’s post to your own Instagram Story, the original user is credited at the top, while their caption appears along the bottom.
Users have often turned to roundabout and third-party methods for sharing other posts on Instagram. While you still can’t “Regram” a post directly to your feed, sharing the post to your Story is a way for Instagram to capitalize on the desire for this feature without cluttering the traditional feed.
Instagram is also facing competition from Snapchat and thus must look for ways to set itself apart, which this sharing feature does.
What do you think of Instagram’s solution for sharing posts from other users? Do you like it or would you rather the company add “Regram” button? Let us know down in the comments.
